Gates was born in Seattle, Washington, to William H. Gates, Sr. and Mary Maxwell Gates
Bill Gates began to show an interest in computer programming at age 13

He graduated Lakeside School in 1973 and took the SAT with the magnificent score 1570 over 1600. He enrolled Harvard College in autumn 1973 but when he enrolled, he had no plan for what is he going to study. He never finishes his University.
In February 1976, Gates wrote an Open Letter to Hobbyists in the MITS newsletter saying that MITS could not continue to produce, distribute, and maintain high-quality software without payment. This letter was unpopular with many computer hobbyists, but Gates persisted in his belief that software developers should be able to demand payment. Microsoft became independent of MITS in late 1976, and it continued to develop programming language software for various systems.
IBM partnership
In July 1980, IBM approaches Microsoft about a project code-named "Chess." In response, Microsoft focuses on a new operating system—the software that manages, or runs, the computer hardware and also serves to bridge the gap between the computer hardware and programs, such as a word processor. It’s the foundation on which computer programs can run. They name their new operating system "MS DOS."
The cost for the exchange was $ 50000.

In 2000, Gates and his wife combined three family foundations into one to create one foundation Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Which is the largest transparently operated charitable foundation in the world at that time..
