Transcript of A Day In The Life Of Your Neighborhood Dentist

The Life Of Your Neighborhood Dentist There are several different tasks a dentist may have to face during the day. Teeth whitening Cavity Filling What causes cavities you ask? Your mouth is full on tiny living organism bacterias that are constantly on the move on your teeth, lips, tongue, and gums. Not all bacteria is bad but there are certain types that can attach themselves to hard surfaces like the ENAMEL that covers your teeth. If they aren't removed, they multiply and grow in number until a colony forms. Then different types of bacteria also join, along with proteins that are present in your saliva causing a whitish film on your tooth. This film is called plaque and plaque is what causes cavities. Good ideas so far, just keep adding more information.
Think about possibly interviewing a dentist. I like how
your going to draw pictures, it will help your audience
better understand what your talking about. Most of us start out with sparkling white teeth, thanks to their porcelain-like enamel surface. Composed of microscopic crystalline rods, tooth enamel is designed to protect the teeth from the effects of chewing, gnashing, trauma and acid attacks caused by sugar. But over the years enamel is worn down, becoming more transparent and permitting the yellow color to dentin (the tooth's cor material) to show through. Teeth whitening removes the stains and debris, leaving the enamel cracks open and exposed. Some of the cracks are quickly and are re-mineralized by saliva, while others are filled up again with organic debris A child chipped
his/her tooth! A child may come in with their parent expaling a climbing tree story of how the tooth chipped and the dentist would prepare a cast and fix the broken part, this is also called "capping". Teeth cleaning This is different from getting your teeth whitening. This process is obviously a good way to keep a whiter smile but doesnt inculde any type of bleaching. Your dentist will remove soft plaque and hard tartar(mineralized plaque that builds up on the teeth and can only be removed with professional instruments) from above and below the gums. From expereince of having this done before, the dentist will alsp use a tiny mirror and a scraper to search for cavities and make sure everything is well with your teeth.
Check for Wisdom Teeth(du du du) The dentist will either notice them coming in or have to take an x-ray to check if your wisdom teeth are coming in. The wisdom teeth are in the back of both the top and bottom of your mouth and ususally don't start coming up until your a teen or older. Some people do not have them but others that do, may need to get them removed. Certain peoples teeth grow in a strange way and may ruin the rest of your teeth which can cause crooked teeth. The oral surgen will refer you to a dentist who can do the surgery of removing them.(Not a fun process) Dentists also tell every patient they have, to keep their teeth healthy and strong by several different daily activities. Brush your teeth every morning and night! Floss your teeth to get the gunk that hides in between your teeth! Mouth wash is a great way to keep your mouth fresh and shiny! Make sure to change in your tooth brush for a new one when it gets dull becasue a dull tooth brush doesn't help! Keep the sugar consumption to a minimum they cause cavities! This project was actually a good way to get me thinking about the actual occupation of being a dentist. I want to be a pediatric dentist because I love kids. Anyways this project helped me explore what typical activites for a dentist would be. It will be awhile unitll I am actually learning things that have to do with the dental activities. For now I just have to pass classes that do not really have anything to do with being a dentist, and get into dental school. I was trying to figure out what way I would like to present my project to the class and then MORGAN showed the class a really interesting site called prezi. I'll be honest, I am very technologically challeneged so I was worried i would not be able to figure it out. My obsticales inculded figuring out the "path" which can be a pain if you cant figure it out. When we watched the other prezi's in class, I saw that they were very well thought out and interesting to watch so it made me nervous that I wouldn't be able to do anything as good. I found my information from different websites that showed what a typical day would be like. I also recalled my personal expereinces at a dentist office and thought about all the tips my dentist would give me so that I wont get cavities. I chose to make this project simple because I wanted it to be easy for everyone to understand. The pictures i chose are just to keep my audiences' attention. I chose a youtube I found because usually when you have to get your wisdom teeth taken out they give you some drugs that make you feel pretty funny as you can see in my clip. The song is from the show Fairly Odd Parents. Considering I want to be a pediatric dentist, i kept my project at a fun and understandable level. Bibliography
