Gil Scott-Heron Sarah Kay Shane Koyczan the spoken word beat love heartbreak childhood memories the sea death hate crimes violence LGBT issues suicide advice equality life & humanity weather religion politics sex gender emotions Pick or think of a theme or experience you are passionate about. Write a single verse or stanza to go with this theme. ACTIVITY: find your passion Random audience members are chosen as judges Judges score each poem with a number from 0-10 Most slams have multiple rounds with eliminations Props, music and costumes are strictly forbidden Slam format ACTIVITY: express yourself As a piece of paper is handed around the room, each person may contribute their previously written verse, or a new verse until we have created an entire poem. fin.
