Background photo by t.shigesa The Loch Ness Monster Introduction The myth Back in the days many people believed that sea serpents were real. They told story about how the serpents would rise from the sea, and snatch ships. They would also say that the serpents might have eaten the ships whole, with everyone in it! Do sea monsters exist? ? Throughout history many stories have been told about the existence of sea monsters. The question that remains is: Are they real? Stories were also told about the existence of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. It was belived that Nessie occupied the Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. This is a very deep body of water, that in some parts may even be thousands of feet deep. The first sighting of Nessie was in 1934. Many people believe that mermaids are real. Many people have also claimed to have seen mermaids. Sailors say that they have spotted mermaids while roaming the seas. This myth started when carvings of half human and half fish creatures were found in caves. It is believed that mermaids are beautiful sea creatures that save those who get stranded in the ocean.
