Welcome to Kindergarten
Transcript of Welcome to Kindergarten
Welcome to Kindergarten
Our math series is Pearson Envision. There are 16 topics in kindergarten and the series includes a technology program. We will spend at least one hour of day on math.
Our reading program is Scott Foresman Reading Street 2013.
We have a 2 hour language arts
block a day. One hour of that block
is spent in workshop, small group reading according to ability.
Students go to special
class every day for fifty minutes. The special classes are gym, art, music, and library/computer and will rotate weekly this year. The
Students will need to wear tennis shoes on gym weeks. Homeroom teachers will send a note home at the beginning of the school year explaining when the gym weeks are.
Every child is expected to
read 20 minutes a night.
Each child will be given a
homework folder that will have
a book to read and a high
frequency word list. The folder
needs to be looked at nightly.
Homework will change during
the course of the year to include more words and math. We will
send a letter home when it does.
Screenings and Tests
All students will be given a screening
at the beginning of the year called the Brigance. It will show student development and include a parent questionaire. The parent questionaire will be sent home at the beginning of the year and needs to be completed as soon as possible. This is a state required screening.
Arrival and Dismissal
Please make sure your child is
on time. It sets the stage for
the rest of the student's academic career.
Walkers are picked up and dropped
off in the back circle only. Parents
can walk in with their child for the first
two days of school only.
* Work on "self-help" skills with your child (Using the bathroom independently, putting on coats
and using the zipper on their backpack).
*Have your child practice: writing and identifying their name, counting to ten, identifying colors, and singing the alphabet.
*Make sure your child has the school supplies s/he needs.
*Also please see that your child gets plenty of sleep.
* Please check your child's folder nightly and help your child put their folder in their backpack.
*Please help your child
remember to bring their backpack everyday.
*Please fill out the papers in the registration folder and make sure they are returned to school quickly.

We are so excited to be a part of
your child's Kindergarten experience.
Tonight's information will give you a quick
snapshot of what your child will need, learn
and achieve over the course of this school
year. By being here tonight, you are already making an impact on your child's success.
We're growing lifetime learners.
We're so happy your child will be beginning their school career with us. Our goal this year is to nurture a love for learning and to educate your child so that s/he is at or above grade level at the end of the year. "Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectations."(Bob Beauprez) We take this commitment very seriously and are looking forward to a great year.
