in 2012 A popular theme for Christmas and New Years parties this year is that of the roaring twenties era, based around the American F. Scott Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby. A tale set on romance and wealth in a time of Prohibition, a period which banned the selling and manufacturing of alcohol. With this came the emergence of underground speakeasies, rebellious bars home to the rich and glamorous, providing them with a place to sip cocktails, smoke tobacco, listen to Jazz bands and dance the Charleston. With it came the fashions we hear of today, flapper girls and tailor-made gangsters (bootleggers) who made lots of money from smuggling alcohol into the US. - Fat Sam’s Speakeasy at No.11 Cavendish Square - B&H Group's Prohibition Christmas at a secret London location - Prohibition party NYE special - Great Gatsby @ Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge Despite a relaxed attitude to bootlegging alcohol, this event adheres to a strict costume-only rule, after all, denim was worn by prisoners in the 1920s. Similar to the B&H secret Christmas party, this event is ticket-only, get them quick as they sell out fast!
31st Dec 2012 @ Bloomsbury Ballroom

Up-tempo jazz plays in the background whilst tasty cocktails are served in tin cups to emulate an enchanting 1920s- style speakeasy. The bar runs on a candlelit table service, with a no standing policy. Although the bar is open seven days a week, spaces at the weekend are sparse so book in advance if you want to experience this anti-prohibition bar.
