Coin Toss & Kickoff
First Downs:
All progress in a football game is measured in yards. Each time the offense gets the ball, they have four downs, or chances, in which to gain 10 yards for a first down. Which helps them get closer to there opponents end zone.

Coin Toss:

Selected members of each team (called captains) come to the center of the field, where the referee holds a coin. The reason of the coin toss is for either of the teams to get the chance to either get the ball on offense first or to defend first.

The team that wins the coin toss will have the choice between receiving the ball or kicking the ball to the other team.

The team that kicks the ball to the opposing team is defending, and trying to keep the opposing team from getting very far so they will have a disadvantage.

And the team that receives the ball is on offense and are trying to get as far as they can to get an advantage. So it will be easier to score or get down the field.
