Scientists realized that natural resources aren't inexhaustible, the environment's capacity to absorb the waste is limited and our actions have an impact on the environment.
What is it and how does it come to sustainable development?
Sustainable development is the relationship that exists between development, ecology and society, which occurs at the same time.

To advance sustainable development, we must know how to use renewable energy sources like solar, wind, tidal ... they are cheap and ecological.
1. Any renewable resources should be used no longer than that of its generation.

2.Social sustainability is the maintenance of social cohesion and its ability to work in pursuit of common goals.

1. Economic sustainability is when the activity moves to the environmental and social sustainability is financially feasible and profitable.

3.No non-renewable resources should be used more quickly than it is necessary to substitute a renewable resource used in a sustainable manner.

Some of these ideas would require investment, but in a long-term perspective they could help to reduce costs.

The best way to promote environmental sustainability is to promote recycling and saving resources and this activity should be profitable.
Water saving measures:
We must take into account the social consequences of the activity at all levels.
To begin with, we must establish some goals like these:
Enhance training in all population groups.
Increase environmental awareness of all citizens.
Offer students appropriate learning activities for their level of training.
Encourage school-community and social relations.
Installing healthy habits.
Our center is public and accessible to everybody, and apart from the grants of the Ministry of Education, it promotes the collection of old textbooks to help other students, and it has community facilities to use the books and the Internet. Besides, there´s a department aimed at helping students.

In addition, a program promoted by the center called "School Success Plan" is focused on helping communication between parents and teachers in order to help students, and it includes projects such as PROA, COMENIUS, literary or scientific tours etc...
How it develops in our center:
Our school uses the water for gardening, cleaning rooms and bathrooms, but the showers aren't used, and there isn´t a canteen.

I think our school doesn't spend a lot of water (but it is always better to save as much as possible) and it has two cisterns that collect up to 32,000 litres of rainwater.

7 - The water is incorporated to the water pipes and used.
How do the cisterns work?
It is always better to water the plants at night, but in our case, most of these are inside the greenhouse, which has a great advantage:
According to each season, the greenhouse changes the timer: It starts watering at dawn (as plants would freeze at night) and it stops at the hottest hours of the day (as plants would get burnt)
Water saving devices, for example:

Linked to the taps, they replace usual filters and mix water with air, producing a rich stream.
Save up to 50% water and energy.

Allow the water flow "only" when hands are underneath to avoid wasting it.
Reuse water in the sink for the toilet cistern.

The school uses about 11,510 kw / hour in a month.

LED light installation:
The lights are on from 8:00 am to 10:30 pm (almost 15 hours) and installing LED lights would help to reduce up to 40% of consumption.
It would cost 70,000€ and it is slow to make profits.

Each plate can cost 600€ and there are government aids up to 80% for installing them.

We can help to reduce consumption:
Turning off outside lights during certain hours.
Disconnecting electronic devices.
Building insulation:
Due to the weather conditions in Ceuta, we don't need heating except for a few days a year.
It is not profitable to install it.
Turning off the light when we leave classrooms.

Although we try to recycle as much as possible, we don't recycle everything.

Digital whiteboards are gradually replacing them.
Textbooks are becoming fewer.
Homemade fertilizer for gardens.
This will also help to reduce waste after the breaktime.

Awareness is very important.
Don't waste paper and recycle.
Don't mix paper with other waste.
They can prepare workshops to raise awareness among students.
Put recycling points for batteries and glass.
It is difficult to put three containers in each classroom.
There are types of waste that aren't recycled.
The most important thing for changes is AWARENESS.
