Greece Area : 50, 942 sq miles Seasonal climate is Mediterranean..meaning mild (dry summers & wet winters) changes in temperature & precipitation has affectd water availability & resource management, shaping patterns of crop production & food preparation in Greece The main spoken languages are Czech, Danish, Dutch, English. 80% of Greece is mountainous (one of the most in Europe) The Pindus is a chain of mountains that lie across the center of the country, in a NW to SE direction. The maximum elevation is 2637m. Pindus Mountains Agriculture has declined because of the rise in industrial activity. Some products include wheat, corn, sugarbeets, olives, tomatoes, wine, and beef. Greece is the first area in Europe where advanced early civilizations emerged. Parliamentary republic modeled after French system. President: head of State Prime Minister: head of Government Religion: Orthodox Christians Europe Day: May 9th Anthem: Ode to Joy 98% of the people are Orthodox Christians, over 1% are muslims, small number of jews. Industries: The Federation of Industries of Northern Greece is in charge of gathering and updating macroeconomic data for Greece.
