Transcript of French Leaving Certificate Oral 2013

4th of April 2011
French Oral Leaving Certificate 2011
April 2016
"First encounter with the examiner"
He will tell you:

1) how the oral will take place.

2) he will be using a tape recorder to record your Oral.

3) there might be another examiner coming in during the exam.

4) you should not pay too much attention to the time spent on the document.
For the next 3 or 4 days:
"Time to shine"
"You will be in a situation of communication, not a monologue."
"Passé composé, Présent, Futur"
"You won't be able to say everything you've prepared, it's OK!"
The exam procedure:

1) Wait to be called by the examiner.

2) "Bonjour, vous êtes bien John?"

3) "Voulez-vous bien signer ici s'il vous plaît?"

4) "Asseyez-vous" ... "John White, candidate number 6504"

5) Est-ce que vous avez un document?
The examiner will only speak to you in French, so should you.

Once you leave the room you cannot get back in, no need to ask for a second take.

The exam WILL last 12 minutes, no matter how much or how few you have to say.
"The examiner is here to add points,
not to substract them"
"No need to ask how you did"
The document:

1) Photo, newspaper article, drawing, text from a book... all of them in French only!

2) Usually, you discuss the document during the second half of the exam.

3) Avoid the simple description: "Devant, à l'arrière plan ...".

4) The examiner decides how much time to spend on the document: try as best as you can to interest him/her!
The discussion:

1) Positive attitude (adaptation to your level, interst in your personality).

2) At first, short questions.

3)"Parlez moi de ... Racontez-moi ... Pourquoi ... Que pensez-vous de ... Pouvez vous décrire ... Comment ... Expliquez moi ..."

4) If the examiner feels you are only reciting by heart ... !!!
Do I need to know all about the current events?
Marking scheme:

1)Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Communication, Structure.

2) 3 categories: A / B / C.

3) 3 sub categories: Top, middle, bottom.
Bon Courage!
