The Reconstruction Project U.S. History and Constitution: Grade 11 In this unit students will analyze the effects of Reconstruction on southern states and their inhabitants. Students will participate in various student-centered learning activities as well as teacher-centered presentations to gain knowledge about the Reconstruction. Students will then work collaboratively to create a digital cartoon in which they present their analysis of the effects of Reconstruction. Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question Is change ever easy ? Unit Questions What issues did the South face during Reconstruction? How did the Presidential plan differ from Congressional plans for Reconstruction? Content Questions What Presidents were involved in Reconstruction? What were the "Black Codes?" What was the purpose of the Freedmen’s Bureau? What constitutional amendments were made to address problems facing African Americans during Reconstruction? State IndicatorUSHC-3.3 Analyze the effects of Reconstruction on the southern states and on the role of the federal government, including the impact of the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendments on opportunities for African Americans. State Standard USHC 3 The student will demonstrate an understanding of how regional and ideological differences led to the Civil War and an understanding of the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on democracy in America.
