The Helper's Work
Convict…concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father,
and you will see Me no longer.
"I…count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith."
Philippians 3:8-9
The Rebuke
"I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are you going?' But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart."
John 16:4-6
The Sword of the Spirit
"I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is Mine; therefore I said that He will take what is Mine and declare it to you."
John 16:12-15
Convict…concerning judgment,
because the ruler of this world is judged.
"When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, ‘Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.’ But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."
1 Samuel 16:6-7
Convict…concerning sin,
because they do not believe in Me.
"A moderately bad man knows he’s not very good: a thoroughly bad man thinks he’s alright. You understand sleep when you’re awake—not sleeping."
C.S. Lewis
“How shall I know this? For I am an old man,
and my wife is advanced in years.”
Luke 1:18
“How will this be, since I am a virgin?”
Luke 1:34
"Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you."
John 16:7
"…I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you."
John 14:16-17
"And when He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged."
John 16:8-11
Convict…
"What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works."
Romans 9:30-32
"And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness."
Acts 4:31
"Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give."
Proverbs 25:14
