What is the time period of the story?

The era of this story is when African Americans and Caucasians were segregated. When Jackie and her grandmother used to go through town and Jackie would see a diner. but her grandmother wouldn't go there because she
different want to be treated harshly.
Who are the main characters?

The main characters in the story are Jacqueline
Woodson(a.k.a Jackie), Odella(a.k.a Dell. Jackie's oldest sister), Hope(Jackie's oldest brother) and Roman(Jackie's baby brother). Also Mama, Grandma Georgina, Daddy(a.k.a Grandpa Gunnar).
Where does the story take place?

The story "Brown Girl Dreaming" takes place in many places. The first setting is in Columbus Ohio, where Jackie is born. But the main settings are Nicholtown, Greenville, South Carolina, and New York.
Main Characters
What are the major conflicts/projects that the main characters experience?

There are many conflicts but the main one is when Jackie has to move from Greenville. She doesn't want to leave the place she grew up at. But her mother wants to move to New York.

: This escalation leads to the climax, the part of the plot where it will ultimately be determined whether the hero will overcome all the conflict from the rising action or fail to overcome the conflict and face defeat.
What is the most exciting point of the book and how does it affect the outcome of the story?

The most exciting point of the book is when Jackie is moving to New York. It's exciting because she has to start a new life in a place that's unfamiliar. It affected the outcome of the story because she made a new life where people weren't racist.
How is the main conflict /problem solved?

The main conflict of the book was solved when Jackie made a new friend when she moved. She wasn't sad anymore. Also she found her true passion.

Resolution:
the action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter.
What happens to the characters at the end of the story?

At the end of the story everyone is happy. Jackie finally finds her true self and passion. She always wondered about her life. Dell loved to read. Hope was into science. She was trying to find her passion. She found out that her true self is to become a writer. She loved to write poems. Jackie found who she was.

How does the main character grow mentally and emotionally throughout the story?

The main character grows throughout the story because she finds her true self. Jackie grows mentally because when she gets her first notebook her mind expands. She starts to write poems and stories. She grows emotionally because she has to deal with sad things. For example, when Grandpa Gunnar dies. She has to deal with his death. even though she misses him.
How does main character know him or herself better at the end of the story?

Jackie knows her self better at the end of the story because she finds her passion in life. She found out that she loves writing and telling stories. She got to know her true qualities.
What is a lesson that the main character learned through the events of the story that proved that they changed for the better or demonstrated that they have matured as a human being?

The lesson that Jackie learned that matured her as a human being is no matter who you are, you should follow your passion. She learned this lesson because she realized she could be a writer and that's what she did. Also, that everyone is
different.
Why do you feel that your selection was appropriately challenging for you?
This selection was appropriately challenging for me because the author didn't really state the theme of the story. Another challenge was the sentence structure. One sentence she would be talking about her brother then the next she would be talking about her sister. So you would have to really pay attention.
