INTRODUCTION:

BROTHER Jose 'Marueño' Corporan
BROTHER Herve 'Elon' Borgella

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
1986
Baltazar Mendoza Madrigal, a Brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. realized the need for Latino representation on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
Along with 17 other men and the help of Mary Peterson, he aspired to create an organization that could benefit all minorities on this campus.
On April 4, 1986 their dream became a reality and Sigma Lambda Beta was born.
Sigma Lambda Beta goes “Coast to Coast” in the Spring of 1992 with the expansion to SUNY-Stony Brook (Pi Chapter) and Cal. State University-Dominguez Hills (Tau Chapter)

As Brothers of a Latino Based Fraternity with a multicultural emphasis, we must spread and educate others about the diverse brotherhood we share among each other.
It is our responsibility to not only better ourselves, but to our community as well. With that mindset we focus on further enhancing our society through service and philanthropic events.
Our main goal is ensure that each Brother has the best opportunity to earn his undergraduate degree. As Brothers of The Fraternity we strive to promote academic excellence day in and day out.
Brotherhood is one of our most cherished principles because it serves as the foundation for our success. With a strong brotherhood we are able to count on each other to fulfill the duties necessary to be a great organization.
