There are no advantages to the Welsh language

The Welsh language is dead
Faint o bobl sy’n siarad Cymraeg heddiw?

In the world today there are approximately 6000 languages.

By 2100 around 90% of these languages will have vanished completely (Chomsky and Ruhler)

Approximately 2/3 of the world’s population use at least two languages every day.

Brad y Llyfrau Gleision & Deddf Addysg Treachery of the Blue Books (1847) & Education Act (1870)
Education Act notes that there shouldn't be any provision in schools for teaching Welsh.

The language was excluded from official areas.

Welsh language was pushed to the peripheries and became the language of the home and the church.

Language lost its status.

Deddfau Uno / Acts of Union 1536/1542
Llywelyn ap Gruffudd yn marw Llywelyn ap Gruffudd dies
1282: Llywelyn ap Gruffudd died. Wales was conquered by Edward I.

Llywelyn ap Gruffudd was the last prince of an independent Wales.

Wales loses its independence.

Dydy iaith ddim yn marw oherwydd fod neb yn ei siarad. Mae iaith yn mawr oherwydd fod pobl sy'n gallu ei siarad, ddim yn ei siarad.

Language does not die because people don’t speak nor learn it. The language dies because people who can speak it don’t speak it.
-Artze (poet from the Basque Country)

“Hikuntza bat ez da glatzen ez dakitenek ikasten ez dutelako, dakitenek hitz egiten ez dutalako baizik”
“Iechyd da i chwi nawr ac yn oes oesoedd”

In 1982 the battle was won for a Welsh Medium channel for Wales by Gwynfor Evans and his supporters. He threatened to go on hunger strike unless Margaret Thatcher's Government kept to their pre-election promise

It was now possible for the Welsh language to filter into all social groups.
