time for a video:
Luqman the Wise

We gave Luqman wisdom saying: “Give thanks to Allah.” Whoever gives thanks has much to gain. But if anyone is ungrateful, Allah is Rich Beyond Need, and Glorious. (Surah Luqman, 12)
The Qur’an mentions Luqman the Wise as a prophet who had been given wisdom, but not as an actual Prophet. The Qur’an records the admonitions he gave to his son. For this reason, they are of great importance for us.
Luqman's Basic Life:
Full name: Luqman Ibn 'Anqa' Ibn Sadun others scholars say his name is Luqman Ibn Tharan
He was so wise that his name was used in a surah that explained his many examples in his life as great and wise deeds.
He was from Ethiopia (Al-Habashah) in Africa & Nuba Desert in South of Eygpt according to many sources.
He lived in Jerusalem and suffered slavery there.
A few of the reasons Allah included his name in the quran:
-he was pious and always observing and pondering upon the creation of Allah around him.
-It is said that an Angel came to him while he was asleep and asked him"Allah wants to grant you one of two gifts;wisdom or become king." Luqman chose wisdom and after he woke up and started feeling smarter more active then he fell into sajdah/sujood-ush-shukr, thanking and praising Allah for this wonderful gift.
Sufyan Ath- Thawri narrated from Al-Ash’ath after ‘Ikrimah on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) that he was an Ethiopian slave who worked as a carpenter. Qatadah narrated from Abdullah Ibn Az-Zubair that Jabir Ibn ‘Abdullah when asked about Luqman, said: “He was short with a flat nose. He was from Nubia.”
What is his work?
To spread Islam with wisdom and great amount patience.
Luqman (Al-Hakim)
