Jazz and narcotics (drugs) Did jazz musicians use narcotics and did it increase the intake of drugs during its period? Charles Winick (from the Social problem) researched this belief and came out later and said that 82% of jazzmen have tried marijuana then from there 23% are regular users of this narcotic. At least 53% had used heroin once. Jazz players felt that there was a social pressure to take 'pot' Some said it helped with group exitment after a long ride when they are touring. Also makes them forget problems on their consience.

He then did some research about it and told the govenor. The doctor then found some startling information about the narcotic which he then warned the governor of Louisiana that it causes exhilaration, delirious hallucinations and drowsiness. http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/hemp/history/first12000/1.htm
