Counting hair number and length
Our group consists of 24 people. The average length of the hair of a pearson is 8 centimeters, and each of us have about
120 000. Calculate the total length of the hair of the members of our group. How many pieces of hair do you need if you want that the sum of the length of our hair be longer than the length of the equator? How large would our group be then?

Deathride2
The company Funride has made a deathride from the roof of one building to another. The distances are on the picture. (hight building on the left 29m, on the right 50, distance between the buildings 20m, construction on the roof 1m)

What is the minimum lenght of the rope of the deathride?
Pythagoras theorem

Solution task 1

by Czech Republic students
The rope is 29 metres long.

a = 20 m
b = ( 50 +1) – (29 + 1) = 21
c = ?
C2 = a2 + b2
C2 = 202 + 212
C2 = 400 + 441
C2 = 841
C = 29

We hope that you can say: “That is a very nice school.”
We will tell you more one day.

ICT room

This is our gymnasium, here we do gymnastics. We do football, volleyball, different jumps…
We also have a bigger gymnasium, but you can’t see it here. Sport is cool!

GYMNASIUM

This is the geography room. Here we learn about all the different countries in the world, about the weather…
This year, we have geography one hour a week. Some people like that, others don’t. Here are a lot of maps! Interesting! Do you know where Belgium is? Look at the next slide and find out.

GEOGRAPHY ROOM

This is our school. It’s called Berkenboom Humaniora. It’s the oldest school in Sint-Niklaas.
It’s 350 years old and it’s a little school. There are nearly 600 pupils. Enjoy!

OUR SCHOOL

PLAYGROUND

In the break we can ‘play’ on the playground.
The most of us talk and make fun, to forget the lessons for a moment.

ICT ROOM

Our classroom is very beautiful, it’s a new class. The people in our class are crazy, but very lovely.
Our form teacher is also our maths teacher. He explains maths very well. Sometimes we don’t understand everything, but then we can ask him and he gives us an answer.

OUR CLASSROOM

In the teachers’ room, the teachers can take a break. They can correct tests or talk about the lessons. They have a hard job to do,
so they need a break sometimes. You can drink coffee, water or tea! Delicious! But students can’t come here.

This is our secretariat. Here we can go to make copies, to talk about problems…
The people here do the administration of our school.
They’re very nice and always listen when you need to say something!

TOILETS

In our school we have two different toilets, one for the girls and one for the boys.
These two places are on a different side of the playground.
Normally you can’t go while you’re in the class, but when you need to go, most teachers will let you go.

In the chemistry room we do experiments and
we learn about material and its structure.

In the biology room we learn about nature,
animals and the body: eyes, mouth, nose...

ICT ROOM
This
is the ICT room, he
re we have computer lessons.
Our teacher learns us how we can make a Word document or a slideshow… and sometimes we can play a game, when we’re ready with the exercises.

Plovdiv is the second-largest
city in Bulgaria after the capital
 Sofia.Plovdiv's history spans
6,000 years and it’s among
the world's oldest cities.

Varna is the largest city on the
Black Sea shore.
 Because of its history
and its economical and
cultural significance,
Varna is often called
the Sea Capital of Bulgaria.

The history of Sofia spans thousands
of years from Antiquity to modern

been a commercial, industrial,

Circumference of the Earth devided by (the group members multiplied by the hair on one head multiplied by the average of hairlenght)

So 174 groups will be necessary to cover the circumference of the earth with hair.

Kristian, Eva and Jana got a task from their parents; they had to pick 21 litres of mushrooms. Kristian worked with speed 2 litres per hour, Eva 3 litres per hour and Jana 1 litre per hour. The girls began at 10:00, but Kristian began about 2.5 hours sooner than Eva and Jana, because he had to go away. He went away 4.5 hours after beginning of his work.
a) What time was the task finish?
b) What time did Kristian leave?

Picking Mushrooms

Can you find the equation of AB, BE and EF ?

Kristian picked mushrooms for 4,5 hours. Kristian picked 9 litres of mushrooms. So 12 litres to go for Eva and Jana.
Eva and Jana picked 4 litres mushrooms in one hour.
They have to work for 3 more hours.
Eva and Jana had to work for three more hours.
They started at 10:00 so they finished their work at 13:00.
Kristian worked together with Eva and Jana for 2 hours, so he left them at 12:00.

In the orange zone, Kristian is alone and he picks in 2,5 hours, 5 litres mushrooms.
In the green zone, the three children pick 6 litres of mushrooms per hour. At 12:00, they have 17 litres mushrooms.
In the pink zone, Eva and Jana pick 4 litre per hour.
At 13:00 they have 21 litres of mushrooms!

This is a problem created by Belgian students. You can mail solutions to Toon, Jens, Seppe, Giske or Sarah.

Bob the builder has broken his right triangle. He decides to make a new one. He has two wooden sticks. The wooden stick of 5 m, will be his new side of the right angle. The other stick with a lenght of 5 times the squareroot of 2 , is the new hypotenuse.
What is the lenght of the other side of the right triangle?
a) 3 m
b) 5 m
c) 6 m
d) 8 m
We've presented the litres mushrooms in function of the hours. We started the x at 0 hours, they are finished at 13 hours. We learned to find the first degree equation, we learned about the slope, zero-point, .... Can you find the equation of the lines AB, BE and EF?
