Transcript of Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis
Discovered by: Felix Lewandowsky and Wilhelm Lutz in 1922. Discovered in two half brothers Discovered by Felix Lewandowsky and Wilhelm Lutz in 1922 in two brothers with an HIV infection.. From 25% to 50% of EV cases are inherited, usually with an autosomal recessive pattern. An X-linked inheritance has also been reported. Others say its a "Autosomal recessive disease". Common in ages 1-20. Affects less than 1,000 people in the United States. Researchers have discovered that a locus of the gene EV1 is responsible for the disease, mapping that gene to chromosome 17. Some Common symptoms that accompany the warts usually result from the irritation associated with these growths, namely itching and bleeding. Visual Diagnosis by a doctor. Squamous cell carcinoma develops in 30-50% of cases Numerous treatment modalities have been used to treat EV without any benefit.
