Stress, stress, stress, the word itself feels stressful. Everyone has it or has gone through it in their life and over the years it's becoming even more common. Stress can come in different forms, sometimes it's healthy stress other times not so much, and that's where stress management comes in. Stress management is when you find ways to not be stress and manage it so it doesn't become too much and end up being unhealthy for you. The official definition of stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. This definition helps in understanding how difficult and draining stress can be when it isn't managed. Stress management is very important if you want to be able to handle stress without it becoming overwhelming and that's exactly what you are going to be taught how to do in this presentation.
Positive stress is a type of stress that's natural and isn't unhealthy for you if managed properly. Positive stress can be anything that is really something happy that's happening but may be stressful. Something like child birth, wedding preparations, going on vacation, buying your first home, getting promoted or even getting your dream house/car or job. This stress can be healthy because it gives you ambition and makes us work harder to get what we want which is good because with that ambition and hard work it's more likely that we will achieve whatever we were working towards. This type of stress is good when wanting to get things done but if you focus too much on it, it can become too much to handle and can be unhealthy very fast. But if you don't focus on the stress and use the stress to help you get things done it can actually be healthy.
Now negative stress, this is the type of stress you should be worried about. This type of stress can become very unhealthy and can cause migraines, weakness, drowsiness, nausea, sleeping problems, stomach aches and much more. This type of stress is sadly more common then positive stress because this stress comes up a lot in our modern life styles. This stress can come from homework, work, family problems and much more. These things can easily become too stressful and can make life much harder then it should be. This type of stress if different from positive stress because instead of using this stress as ambition, it's used as something that constantly keeps you worrying about everything and over analyzing and overworking which can seriously affect your health. This stress is more common in modern day because in the past stress was used for survival by being that message that goes to your brain and makes you react in either flight or fight when put in life and death situations, now when that part of your brain is signaled it has no where to take out it's energy so it hurts the body instead as a way to extract the energy it's collecting.

Like there's two types of stress there's also two types of ways to handle stress, one which is unhealthy and one that is healthy.
Unhealthy Ways of Reducing Stress:
-Using drugs or alcohol to take away the stress -eating unhealthy, either by under eating or overeating
-Withdrawing from friends, family and extra curricular activities
-Procrastinating, this also includes sleeping too much and avoiding the task at hand any way possible, be that filling up your day with other activities or using your time to watch TV or go on the computer
-Taking out stress on others
Healthy Ways of Reducing Stress:
-A first step is to try to avoid unnecessary stress, you can do that by avoiding people who stress you out and avoid topics that do the same
-Next, it is very important that you learn to take control over the situation, so, learn how to compromise, express your thoughts and manage your time.
-Thirdly, it's important to change your mindset to be something a bit more open minded and positive, so that you are able to handle whatever stress comes your way.
-Another extremely important thing to do is RELAX. Though sometimes this may be hard and seemingly impossible, it is crucial when relieving or avoiding stress. Some ways to do this is by going for a walk, taking up a hobby, talking it out (either by writing it down or by verbally telling someone about it) and focus on the present and not worry about the things that haven't even happened yet.
-Finally, adopting a healthy lifestyle can help a lot with reducing stress, this can be done by exercising, eating healthy and having a good amount of rest.
-Stress is a your body's natural reaction to when anything abnormal is happening that can cause you harm or put others and yourself in any sort of danger no matter how big or small. This reaction was used in the past as the flee or fight reaction when they were put in life and death situations, back then stress was what was helping them know what to do in those types of situations. Nowadays, this reaction happens even with the simplest situations and since this stress reaction usually gives us the energy to either flee or fight, when we don't use it, it builds up and causes us health problems.
-You can decrease your stress level by simply chewing gum!
-In 2012, 1 out of 5 employees had mental problems caused by stress.
-Around 500,000 employees all around Canada take the day off because of mental health issues everyday.
-The term stress originates from the Latin word
, which means to draw tight.
-Cocoa and chocolate are known to reduce stress because they are rich in antioxidants.
-From the majority of the countries all around the world, Russia, France and Italy are known to have the least amount of people who are stress.
-Laughing is a good way to relieve stress because when you laugh it reduces the cortisol, adrenaline, and epinephrine in our body, all of which are known to help increase stress, it also release dopamine, which is a hormone that makes you fell good.
-The reason stress balls are known to reduce stress is because when it is used, it hits certain pressure points in your hand that help with stress.
-When you stress, your body naturally heightens your reaction system that causes wakefulness and thus makes it hard to sleep and causes insomnia and other sleeping disorders.
