The Namesake- Bengali celebrations and ceremonies ANNAPRASAN- a ceremony that formally marks a childs transition in diet from milk to solids foods, including rice, anna. the baby is fed by the maternal grandfather Followed by a ceremony to decide the babies future Nabo Barsho Bengali New Year, occurs in mid-April Women wear a red and white sari ad men wear dhoti kurta Bengali homes are decorated with fresh flowers and rangolis, made with colored rice Durga Puja A celebration of the Hindu goddess Durga celebrated for 6 days. The dates are set according to Hindu Calnedar, a fortnight corresponding to the festival is called Debi Pokkho Durga Arranged Marriages the traditional wedding is arranged by Ghotoks, friends or relatives of the couple they traditionally have four parts the bride's gaye holud, where tumeric is applied to the bride and henna tattoos are added to her hands the grooms's gaye holud the wedding ceremony and the reception The first event in a wedding is an informal one: the groom presents the bride with a ring marking the "engagement" which is gaining popularity. This can sometimes be considered as Ashirwaad.v
