Williams was the African American woman to receive a Ph.d in Geology. She was mentored by African American biologist Ernest Everett. She attended Howard University in 1923, Colombia University in 1930, and Catholic University of America. She was a professor, geologist, teacher, and an instructor. She retired in the year 1955.
