The disease affects the population of catfish greatly, still, there is very little known about it. The Microbial and Animal Genomics Lab tries to figure out what causes the disease and researches to try and make a vaccine for it. This means they study the infections and/or diseases of bacteria, and how the animals react in their environment. E Questions? N D Data
The lab has been working on many projects, one being the example used earlier.
Another disease about catfish is the enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC), which can avoid the catfish's defense system.
The mission of this research is to construct mutations with the part of the DNA that can make copies of itself in the E. ictaluri.
The mutants that start to have an increase in emotion, or wanting, by catfish will be compared to the E. ictaluri.
After, they will eliminate any mutations they don't want.
Then they will choose the mutants they want, which would be the ones that can cause disease, and keep them for further characterization.
