Transcript of What Ionic Compounds Are In Our Food?

Chemical Name: Sodium Bisulfite
Formula: NaHSO3
Disadvantages:
Destroys vitamin B1 in meat.
Inhalation of sodium bisulfite irritates the respiratory tract.
Benefits:
Keeps vitamin C from breaking down for preserving produce.
Considered as a reduction agent that donates hydrogen molecules to other substances in cosmetics products.
Fun Fact:
Plays a big role in the wine industry.
Chemical Name: Sodium Benzoate
Formula: NaC7H5O2
Disadvantages:
Increases your risk for leukemia and different types of cancer.
Blood in urine is associated with sodium benzoate.
Advantages:
A treatment for multiple sclerosis.
Causes a decline in ammonia levels.
Fun Fact:
Allowed as an animal food additive.
Chemical Name: Sodium Phosphate
Formula: NaPO4
Disadvantages:
Could be poisonous if taken with substances such as organophosphate or tribasic sodium.
Sodium phosphate can irritate the digestive tract and cause an upset stomach, diherrea, and constipation.
Benefits:
Helps lower blood pressure.
Prevents certain types of kidney stones.
Fun Fact:
Sodium phosphate and calcium are applied to sensitive teeth to reduce pain.
Chemical Name: Sodium Lactate
Formula: NaC3H5O3
Disadvantages:
Could not be given to babies and/or small children, because they have not developed the appropriate enzymes in the liver to metabolise these forms of lactate.
If you consume dairy products containing this sodium lactate you will have a reaction if you are lactose intolerance or have a milk allergy.
Advantages:
Used to preserve, prevent bacteria and fungi from growing.
Sodium Lactate is one of the Natural Moisturizing Factor of skin. Sodium Lactate is a superior moisturizer, increasing the moisture content of skin by up to 84 percent.
Fun Fact:
Used to harden bar soaps and reduce cracking.
