problem: a DUI in Washington
Transcript of problem: a DUI in Washington
If a person gets caught for the first time and gets charged with a DUI it will be treated as a regular misdemeanor, and they will have to do whatever a judge tells them to do. If they get caught a second time and its a DUI you would be spending the minimum of 16 months in prison. Depending on if an accident occurred from the DUI the sentencing time could vary depending on the type of crash.
This new law will go into effect on January 1, 2018
This bill would make it so the second time you get caught while driving intoxicated it would be a felony charge. This would make it so it would be less likely for an alcohol related crash to happen because its lessening the amount of times someone can drink and drive without getting a serious consequence.
This bill would affect anyone that drinks and drives and it would help out other drivers from the danger this could cause.
You can get caught with a DUI in Washington state 4 times and it will only be charged as a misdemeanor, unless an accident was caused from it. After the 4th time if you get caught even without an accident happening it will become a felony charge.
