The Meaning
The meaning of the poem was to show how great a god Aten was. The author would express this through his/her word choice and tone.
The Poet
The original author of the story is unknown but Miriam Lichtheim is the translator of the story.
The Poem
This poem was one of the longest poems of the New Kingdom era
This story is about showing praise and joy in the Almighty Aten
- an adjective or other descriptive phrase that is regularly used to characterize a person, place, or thing.
The Great Hymn to the Aten
This poem was composed as a hymn which is a sacred song
It was found on the wall of a royal scribe's tomb named Ay. It was put their to ensure Ay's and his wife safe passage to the afterlife.
Their word choice showed that they praised him and the tone was happy and grateful.
The author says good things about Aten and shows that Aten is a very nice god in the author's and egyptians image.
