Van Gogh was inspired by colors and music.
Van Gogh created over 900 paintings, because even when no one bought them, he loved what he did.
He was always rejected, so he translated what he was thinking into his art in different ways.
He also translated his inner spirituality of man and nature into his art.
Van Gogh’s unstable personal temperament made him calmer when he painted, which became famous to other artists.
The smile was inspired by his own imagination and his mother's former figure.
From seeing other paintings, Leonardo Da Vinci created a new style of portraits using a three quarter pose revolutionizing art.
Da Vinci was inspired to paint the face of the Mona Lisa like angels.
He also was inspired by his own inventions and information on hands, which made his hands on the Mona Lisa look more realistic.
Inspired by what historians say was Madonna Lisa di Antonio Maria Gherardini, who supposedly posed for him.
Leonardo Da Vinci and the Mona Lisa
He was inspired by normal things he would see wherever he goes, like the soup cans.
He was inspired by the places he traveled.
He was also inspired by his personal image, which he thought would lead to sales.
He would be inspired by the things he ate.
He was inspired by America's popular celebrity consumption.
Two people he was inspired by was Marilyn Monroe, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
Art is important to different artists because it reminds them of something close to their hearts or something that happened.
Art calms people down, it is relaxing when they had a bad day, or when someone or something has angered them.
It soothes their brain waves when looking at all the different strokes and colors.
Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa to satisfy himself and others, because he wanted it to be good after taking months to paint.
Artists paint because they love what they do, they want to inspire themselve or others, and they want to express himself by their art work.
As Jackson Pollocks said, “I rather express my feelings in my paintings rather than illustrating them.”
The Story of the Starry Night- Van Gogh
"Abstract painting is abstract. It confronts you. There was a reviewer a while back who wrote that my pictures didn't have any beginning or any end. He didn't mean it as a compliment, but it was." Jackson said that a man made a coment on his art, which was not supposed to be a compliment. Jackson took it as a compliment anyways which caused him to like his art more.
Art and How it Relaxes/Comforts You
Evidence for Capturing a Moment
He created the Starry Night in 1889 a couple mounths before his death in an asylum, due to severe attacks.
Van Gogh had the desire to paint a canvas from imagination, believing this would add more value to the piece, and said: 'We may succeed in creating a more exciting and comforting nature than we can discern with a single glimpse of reality'.
When he finished his piece, we relized the he moved away from the traditional Impressionist connection with nature and instead adopts a feeling of impatience.
His swirling brush strokes give the impression that this painting is constantly moving and his palette is much more vibrant than in earlier works.
"I experience a period of frightening clarity in those moments when nature is so beautiful. I am no longer sure of myself, and the paintings appear as in a dream."
Quote Jackson Pollock
Quote Van Gogh
Van Gogh said that he saw a beautiful nature setting and he started imagining his painting like he was in a dream.
Evidence: World of Imagination
Quote Van Gogh
"Do not quench your inspiration and your imagination; do not become the slave of your model."
Van Gogh is saying to follow what your imaginatin wants, not what others want, or not something that you try to please people a lot.
Evidence: Feelings and Beliefs
Quote Jackson Pollock
"The modern artist is working with space and time, and expressing his feelings rather than illustrating."
This shows that Jacksom believes that it is better to express his feelings rather than illustrating them.
