Transcript of Hormones affect tne nervous system of newly born

1.Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronie (T3) Secreted By thyroid gland Effect

• Potentiates the effects of catecholamines (i.e. increases sympathetic activity)
•Potentiates brain development Deficiency :
•Hyperthyroidism (an example is Graves Disease):
is the clinical syndrome caused by an excess of circulating free thyroxine, free triiodothyronine.
Thyrotoxicosis is often used interchangeably with hyperthyroidism. Although thyrotoxicosis also refers to an increase in circulating thyroid hormones, it can be caused by the intake of thyroxine tablets or by an over-active thyroid, whereas hyperthyroidism refers solely to an over-active thyroid.

•Hypothyroidism :
is the case where there is a deficiency of thyroxine, triiodiothyronine, or both.

. 2.Glucocorticoids (cortisol) Secreted by adrenal cortex Effect :
are necessary for
normal brain development,
by initiating terminal maturation,
remodeling axons and dendrites,
and affecting cell survival. 3.Melatonin Secreted by
pineal body Effect
important in mechanisms of learning and memory.
Sleeping problems in children with autism and mental retardation.
Taking melatonin by mouth is helpful for disturbed sleep-wake cycles in children and adolescents with mental retardation and other central nervous system disorders.
appears to shorten the time it takes for to children with developmental disabilities (cerebral palsy and mental retardation) to fall asleep. other effects
.adjust the body’s internal clock.
.It is used for jet lag
.adjust sleep-wake cycles in people whose daily .work schedule changes (shift-work disorder)
help blind people establish a day and night cycle.
.people apply melatonin to the skin to protect against sunburn.

•Jet lag:
improve certain symptoms of jet lag such as alertness and movement coordination. Melatonin also seems to improve, to a lesser extent, other jet lag symptoms such as daytime sleepiness and tiredness. But, melatonin might not be effective for shortening the time it takes for people with jet lag to fall asleep. Hormones affect the
Nervous System
Newly Born Preterm births can suffer neurodevelopmental disorders due to lack of maternal thyroid hormones, at a time when their own thyroid is unable to meet their postnatal needs
