Goggles and Face Shields
Any time there is a risk of splashing or vaporization of contaminated fluids, goggles and/or other eye protection should be used to protect your eyes.

Bloodborne pathogens can be transmitted through the mucous membranes of your eyes and nose if contact is made with contaminated fluids.
How to Safely Remove Gloves
PPE Continued
Different kinds of PPE are used in different work environments. The type of PPE used depends on the type of jobs you are doing.

Gloves should always be worn anytime hazardous materials are being handled.

Goggles should be used anytime there is a risk of contaminated fluids being splashed or vaporized.
Personal Protective Equipment
Goggles
Splashing can occur while cleaning up a spill or while providing First Aid or medical assistance
Face Shields
Face shields can be worn in addition to goggles to provide additional face protection.

A face shield will protect against splashes to the nose and mouth.
What is PPE?
"PPE" stands for Personal Protective Equipment
Gloves
Examples of PPE:
Gloves
Face shields or masks
Safety glasses or goggles
Steel-toed boots
Nitrile Gloves
PPE is used to keep people safe during potentially dangerous situations.
Gloves should be made of nitrile, latex or some other water impervious material.

Note that there are a lot of people that are allergic to latex, so be mindful of which type of gloves are being provided to staff members.

Always inspect gloves and make sure that there are no tears or rips in them.
