Gun Control Persuasive Essay Questions Introduction Examples Statistics Expert Authority Facts Conclusion - What events led to the idea of the gun
control law in the U.S.?
- What are the pros and the cons of gun
control?
-Are you for or against gun control? The idea for the law banning semi-
automatic firearms in the U.S. came
about after the Sandy Hook Elemen-
tary school shooting on January 16,
2013. This law is not only unfair to
law-abiding citizens, but it is also a
not very wise law. Marijuana is illegal in the United States,
but just about anybody can get some. Is
it going to be any different with guns
being illegal? Also, passing this law ban-
ning guns would break the Constitution
of the United States' second amend-
ment, "the right to bear arms". In the United States, for every one
police officer there are 23,000 civilians.
How is one police officer going to pro-
tect them all? It is a good reason to
keep a gun close by for self defense
when needed. Also, 89% of NRA
members are against this gun-
banning law. "I do not think this was a particularly wise pro-
posal on the part of the administration or democrative senators. I think they should have invested their time, focus...on universal background checks, which is a meaningful reform that will make a big difference. The truth is that rifles make up a very small percentage of gun crime in America, assult rifles make up an even smaller percentage of that crime, and the law itself is sort of silly. It bans firearms that are semi-automatic, that have a detachable magazine, and one or more military style char-
acteristic, like a pistol grip or a folding buttstock, those
are cosmetic features, and they are not going to
have a serious effect on gun policy," said
Adam Winkler, a constitutional law
professor at the University of
California. I do know that each year a lot of people are killed by guns, and something should be done to reduce this number. But, if guns are banned in the United States, then what will happen if a burglar breaks into your home? They will most likely have a weapon, and if you call the police, they will already have killed you and taken all of your possessions by time the cops come. The best solution would be to defend yourself with a gun, but if this gun control law passes, if you shoot the burglar, you will probably be framed rather than the actual criminal because you had a gun and the thief did not. I think that a good solution to this gun problem would be to educate people on guns. In a lot of schools, there are no classes teaching about gun safety. Another solution would be to not make guns available for people with certain mental conditions. Passing a law that bans guns is not only unfair to law-abiding citizens, but it is not a very wise law. Honduras has already banned guns. The Honduran Constitution of 1985 states: "No one may possess or carry weapons without permission of the competent authority." In 2008, Honduras held the second highest rate of homicides in the world per 100,000 people, 78.6% of them committed by gun. Is it really going to be any different in the United States? Are strict gun laws really going to help here? Questions - What events led to the gun control law in the U.S.?
