What is Pokemon?
Pokemon is an RPG (role playing game) where you go around the wold, catching and battling creatures. The two main goals are to...
1: Fill up the Pokedex by capturing every pokemon.
2: Create a powerful team to crush your opponents.
Basically some professor named after a tree tells you to go on a quest. You tell your mom and then you go on your way. It only takes you a few towns to stumble upon some evil organization that wants to liberate pokemon or make them their slaves. You eventually defeat them and the elite four and everybody lives happily ever after.
The mainframe Pokemon games, as of January 2014, are Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, X, and Y.
The Math of Pokemon
This may get confusing. A Poke Ball randomly thrown at a wild Pokemon has a 1/255 chance of capturing. You can lower the rate down when you lower its HP or use a different type of capture device. You have a 1/8192 chance of finding a shiny Pokemon, but you can reduce that too. There is even more math in the game, if you feel like making the perfect team.
So now if you are bored or have nothing to do, pick up a Pokemon game today!
