Ballet was first performed in the Italian Renaissance and the first ballet school/academy was built in Paris,1661.

Pointe shoes are normal ballet shoes but with blocks at the bottom.They can be very uncomfortable,rub,give you blisters and ruin your feet!Yet mastering Pointe or 'en pointe' is a major goal in a ballerinas life.A professional ballerina uses up 2-3 pairs a week!

What are tap shoes?
Tap shoes are leather lace-up shoes with a metal heel and toe.
Tap dance originated from the music and dance movements made by
African slaves during the 17th and 18 th century.It started because the couldn't get hold of instruments,so used their feet instead!It was embraced by Hollywood from the 1920s to the 1960s,creating lots of dance/film stars.
Tap dance is usually performed to blues or jazz music.
Modern is usually performed in bare feet.

Ballroom is a partner dance performed both socially and competitively globally.Each dance performed by a man and woman.Ballroom can be performed to a wide variety of music,like jazz,classical or more modern music.

Music:hip hop,sometimes pop ans also older artists,like James Brown,etc
Street is usually performed in trainers/hi-tops.
Street originated in New York,1976 mostly among the African American and Latino population.Unsurprisingly,people first started this on the streets,combing lots of dance genres and also brand new ideas to create it.Street/Hip Hop is all about improvisation,the only dance genre that centers around this concept.
Modern was created in the 20th century by American and German choreographers.They were fed up with the strict ways of ballet so created a free-er,more experimental genre,using ballet as the base.
What is Modern?
Modern is more free flowing version of ballet with amazing leaps,spins and body contortions.
Modern is performed to a vast variety of music,mostly modern.Artists like Florence&The Machine and Emile Sande are favorites.

In 1518,Strasbourg,France there was the 'dance craze' where people danced without rest, for no obvious reason.They lasted for month and by then there were 400 people had joined.
The woman that started the craze should have lasted 3 days max but somehow was still dancing after 6 days.Many others died from pure exhaustion,strokes and dehydration.
The reason behind it was the that all the people who participated had psychological illnesses,caused by stress.The area had extreme famine and illness,perhaps they were just trying to cheer themselves up?
