Who?
What is the meaning of gender discrimination?
Gender discrimination means discrimination based on a person's gender or sex, which more often affects girls and women. Because of gender discrimination, women do not have the same opportunities as boys and men for education, careers, political influence, economic advancement and freedom.

What is it?

Where?
Women discrimination happens all throughout the world. Because of women discrimination, women have less freedom and do not have the same privileges men do.
When?
Women discrimination has existed since the beginning of time. Even though discrimination has improved, it still exists today.
Why?
The root causes can be traced to culture, which is the quality in every society that shapes the way "things are done." This is defined as expectations about attributes and behaviours appropiate to women and men. The relationships between men and women is shaped by culture.
The Facts
Less than 50% of women have a say in decisions related to their own health
Only 22% of women from rural India are recorded as workers
Every 90 seconds, a women dies of pregnancy or childbirth. Most deaths are preventable, but due to gender based discrimination many women are not given the proper education or care needed.
Over 60 million girls worldwide are children brides, married before the age of 18.
Women account for 70% of the population living in absolute poverty. (1.00$ or less a day)
603 million women live in countries where domestic violence is not considered a crime.

More then 110 million of the worlds children, two thirds of them are girls that are not in school
One in every three women are of survivors of some form of gender based violence, commonly inflicted by a family member.

Canada's Charters of Rights and Freedom states:
"Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal benefit of the law without discrimination based on race, religion,

Gender equalaity means both men and women can excerise their rights and realize their full potenital, regardless of their gender.
