Transcript of Types of Animation

Types of Animation
Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over footage, frame by frame, for use in live action and animated films.
Pixar used CGI in most of their movies
Claymation is one of the many forms
of stop motion animation. Each animated piece, either character or background, is made of a malleable substance, usually Plasticine clay.
Thanks for watching
Advantages of Rotocoping
• Makes animations look real.
• Rotoscoping makes it easier to animate, really difficult complex actions.

Disadvantages of Rotoscoping
It is extremely time consuming
An example of a Rotoscoping frame
What is CGI?
Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is the use of computer graphics to create or contribute to images. The visual scenes may be moving or still, 2D or 3D, though CGI, is normally used to refer to 3D computer graphics.
Advantages of CGI
Final product is very professional looking
Easily able to create characters and settings and create them to look however you wish
Only a computer is needed to create the animation
Disadvantages of CGI
It is very complicated and a lot of practice is needed to create a good animation
It can be an issue to get hold of the correct software to create it
It is extremely time consuming work
Advantages of Claymation
The models can be made to scale which can reduce the amount of room needed for the models
The clay models are relatively easy to make and easy to move into position.
They can be made to represent any object or person which is useful as less props will be needed.
Disadvantages of Claymation
Fine movement is not easy unless the model is made with ball joints
The models take a relatively long time to make and require maintenance as the heat/lighting dries them out.
Wallace and Gromit was made using Claymation
