Transcript of BE GREEN
Caused by industrial and commercial waste, modes of transportation, everyday human actions, and natural disasters
About 3,285 pounds of garbage each year: 30 billion foam cups, 220 million tires, 1.8 million disposable diapers
Over 80% of items in landfills can be recycled, but aren't
1 million bushels of litter are being thrown out of their car windows everyday
Caused by human sewage, oil spills, factories, and refineries
1.2 trillion gallons of sewage, storm water, and industrial waste are discharged into U.S. waters every year
40% of U.S. rivers are too polluted for aquatic life to survive
2.2 billion pounds of pesticides are used every year by Americans, but are eventually washed into rivers and lakes
25% of U.S. beaches are closed at least once because of pollution R
E Solar Energy Solar Energy can reduce your power bill
Use the sun's energy for your power
Solar panels use the suns light for energy Green House Effect The "Greenhouse Effect" is the warming that happens when certain gases trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere.
The gases let light in but stops heat from coming out, similar to a Greenhouse, what it is named after.
Scientists have known about the Greenhouse effect since 1824
The Earth would be 60 degrees Fahrenheit cooler without it's atmosphere trapping the sun's heat.
In 1895 a Swedish chemist discovered that humans enhance the greenhouse effect by producing carbon dioxide.
Humans enhance the greenhouse effect and warm the Earth by burning fossil fuels and other greenhouse gasses. This results in global warming.
Earth's average temperature climbs, , winds and ocean currents move heat around the globe that can cool some areas, warm other areas, and change the amount of rain and snow falling.
Climate changes differ in different areas. Conserving Water When washing your dishes by hand don't let the water run
Don't take a bath take a shower because baths wastes gallons of water
Adjust your sprinklers so only your lawn can only get water, not the side walk, the street, or your house because it doesn't need water https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=885&oq=conserving+water+&gs_l=img.3..0l9.1053.4956.0.5036.18.14.0.18.104.22.168.893.13j0j1.14.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.img.rhq1qa4jpaU&q=conserving%20water#imgrc=FpIWCNNoDLXeRM%3A%3BhlZJWdVPuPajtM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fgroveland-fl.gov%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2009%252F02%252FWater-Drop-Logo.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fgroveland-fl.gov%252Fdepartments%252Fpublic-utilities%252F%3B1449%3B1449 https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=yrcq7cSt4g_H-M&tbnid=mecRrHqHT3u8tM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsuryavenkat.blogspot.com%2F2010%2F10%2Fland-pollution_07.html&ei=RcR5UZqnDeb52AXUwYC4Bw&psig=AFQjCNG3b38ZfPvfpfL-mn4g0u99qYcXPw&ust=1367020835704428 https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=_W_UKmROqSDlKM&tbnid=fRDA00Y4q6pRUM:&ved=0CAQQjB0&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnaturelovers.kcnhs.com%2F%3Fpage_id%3D64&ei=EsV5UeCMHYTc2gXx4YEI&psig=AFQjCNGh2DQ1jZGdnykeOpbRQeoVBaIdjQ&ust=1367021192735794 Humans have increased the amount of carbon dioxide by more than a third since the industrial revolution
Naturally changes like this occur in thousands of years, but are now happening over a few decades. enviroment.nationalgeopgrahic.com Global warming solutions: Set limits on gobal warming pollution
Invest in green jobs and clean energy
Drive Smart cars
Create green homes and buildings
Build better communities and transportation networks Global warming is the result of heat-trapping gasses that humans release when powering their modern lives, such as using electricity.
Due to global warming, glaciers melt, sea levels rise, cloud forests dry, and wildlife struggles to keep up with the climate change.
As well as sea levels rising significantly, weather can also become more intense, meaning titanic storms followed by droughts that would be make growing crops a challenge.
lives of plants and animals could change in range to possibly shorten or lengthen enviroment.nationalgeographic.com http://blogs.e-rockford.com www.ucar.edu Recycling items, such as cardboard, paper, aluminum, plastic, etc., can reduce the amount of trash that goes into landfills. It can also help decrease or prevent the amount of pollution in the oceans and on land. By recycling these types of items, we can conserve natural resources. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gs_rn=11&gs_ri=psy-ab&tok=5WrvRxNwCKA3ryzy8TpxCw&cp=10&gs_id=h9&xhr=t&q=solar+energy&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.45645796,d.cGE&biw=1280&bih=885&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=zPF6UfioG6n5iwL_6ICIDA#imgrc=4YooXnLFy3hxaM%3A%3BlGfrrYpwIV3V5M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fsolarenergysystemsllc.com%252FSES%252FMedia%252FHow-it-works-2a_1_.gif%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fsolarenergysystemsllc.com%252F%3B1806%3B1250 "Welcome to SolarEnergy.com."
