The Blue Mosque

- Located in Istanbul, Turkey
- Near the mosque is the church Hagia Sophia.
- Next to the Hippodrome
-Built on the same place the Great Palace of the Byzantine emperor was standing
Sultan Ahmet l
History and Name
- Known as “Sultanahmet Camii” in Turkish
- Sultan Ahmet 1 commanded to built the Blue Mosque
- Built as a mosque and monument
- Constructed between the years of 1609 and 1616

Architecture
-The architectural style is Islamic and is Late Classical Ottoman
-Capacity: 10000 Length: 37m (240 ft) Width: 65m (213ft)
- 20,000 handmade ceramic tiles
- More than 200 windows
- Six fluted, pencil-shaped minarets

Worshiping
- It is associated with Islam
- Built for Muslims to worship their god, Allah
- They also believed in the Prophet of Allah, Muhammad.
- They prayed in the Blue Mosque the five daily prayers.

- Located in Red Square, Moscow, Russia
- In front of the Moscow Kremlin
-Near the Dormition Cathedral
-Near the Cathedral of the Archangel

History and Name
- It is written “Собор Василия Блаженного” in Russian
- It is now officially known as “Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin on the Moat”
- Ivan the Terrible ordered to built this building
- Built as a Church
- It was built between 1555 and 1561

Architecture
- Has eight chapels surrounding a ninth one which is the largest and the main
-Decorated with different patterns and colors
- It looked like an eight sided star
- Constructed with bricks and stones
- In 1860, the Church was painted with more complex designs.
Worshiping
- The Church associated with Russian Orthodox.
- They worshiped their god

Similarities
- Both building are used for worshiping gods

-Both building became museums or sightseeing monuments for tourists

-Each building has eight domes or chapels surrounding a ninth dome or chapel.
