Iraq! A Project by: Sean Farley The Flag of Iraq This is Iraq. This is Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. Iraq is home to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which have a fertile crescent in the middle, the birthplace of civilization. Iraq is a place home to great ancient architecture like the Ziggurats, which were religious temples in the ancient religion of that area. This is one of the most well known ziggurats, the Great Ziggurat of Ur. It is a popular spot to visit. Language Iraq has 2 official languages, Arabic and Kurdish. This is an Arabic word. Even though it has only 2 official languages, it has many local languages. G O V E R N M E N T Iraq is a Federal Parliamentary Republic. 1) 2) It has an Executive, a Legislative, and a Judicial Branch. 3) This is Nouri al-Maliki, the Prime Minister of Iraq. Other positions besides Prime Minister include President or a seat on either the Council of Ministers, Federation Council, or Council of Representatives. 4) Clothes Food 1) 2) 3) Here are some pictures of Iraqi cuisine. The food of Iraq is filled with flavorful vegetables and oils that give them a Mediterranean, almost Greek taste. Food has been key here since ancient times and Iraq is home to the oldest cookbooks in the world that were written on stone tablets. Clothing is a big deal, especially for Iraqi women.

The Iraqi people are largely Muslim, so their fashion relies on religion.

Recently, in one Islamic Mosque, they displayed western style clothing and told the people that whoever wears it will eternally suffer.

Therefore, this clothing is largely outcasted. Religion The population of Iraq is mostly made up of people of the Islamic Religion. It is almost 100% Islam. There is less than 1% of other religions. The Islamic religion is broken into two parts. The sections and their percentages are Shia 65% and Sunni 35%. 1) 2) This is a Mosque, where Muslims go to worship. Places that you have to visit. This is a popular place for tourists to visit and climb. The Great Mosque of Samarra The National Museum, filled with wonderful works of Iraqi art. The Hatra Ruins are extremely popular and were even used in a famous movie, "The Exorcist". These are the ruins of the Ancient Babylon City. They are about 55 miles south of Baghdad. Interesting Facts... Iraq is home to many holy cities for multiple religions. !!!! !!!! !!!! THE END They use the currency Dinar. Regular clothes for women are usually black like the women in the picture and they have head coverings. The men wear traditional clothing sometimes, but the leaders mainly wear western style suits and ties like normal.
