Transcript of Planet Earth

Earth's Plates
Its surface is split into plates (tectonic plates)

The plates float on a rocky mantle-the layer between the surface of Earth, its crust, & its hot liquid core.

The inside of Earth is active which is why earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountain building take place

The Earth has fewer craters than the surface of other planets
Unique Earth
Earth & the Solar System
Earth is the third planet from the Sun

Earth comes between Venus and Mars

The side that faces the Sun has daytime

The side that faces away from the Sun has night-time

As it orbits round the Sun it tilts very slightly, giving us our Seasons.
Earth's Size & Distance
Its diameter, the distance round the middle at the equator, is 7928 miles

The diameter going round the North & South Poles is 7891 miles.

Earth is larger than the planets closest to it; Mercury, Venus, & Mars

Earth is 93 million miles from the Sun
Earth's 4 Layers
- the layer we live on

- the layer that is hotter and has the ability to flow

- Iron and nickel are in the liquid state

- Iron and nickel are in the solid state
Planet Earth
The Solar System
The only planet that has an atmosphere containing 21% oxygen

The only planet that has liquid water on its surface

The only planet in the Solar System that has life

The only inner planet(Mercury, Venus,Earth,&Mars) to have 1 large satellite, the Moon.
