The Assassination of JFK
Transcript of The Assassination of JFK
On June 5, 1963, JFK agreed upon a presidential visit to Texas with three main goals in mind:
to help raise more Democratic Party presidential campaign fund contributions
to begin his quest for reelection
to help mend political fences among several leading Texas Democratic party members who appeared to be fighting politically amongst themselves
President Kennedy's trip to Dallas was first announced to the public in September 1963. His exact route was finalized on November 18 and announced to the public a few days before November 22.
On November 22, 1963, Kennedy and his wife arrive in Dallas at 11:40 AM.
Who was JFK?
JFK was elected in 1960 as the 35th president of the United States when he was 43 years old.
In his inaugural address, Kennedy called on his fellow Americans to work together in the pursuit of progress and the elimination of poverty, but also in the battle to win the ongoing Cold War against communism around the world.
What did he do?
During his presidency, Kennedy had to confront Cold War tensions in Cuba, Vietnam, and elsewhere.
He also led a renewed effort for public service and eventually provided federal support for the growing civil rights movement.
The motorcade began its route, and at 12:30 PM, three shots were fired.
First shot missed.
Second shot went through Kennedy's neck and hit Gov. Connally twice severely injuring him.
Third Shot hit Kennedy in the head.
Kennedy was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.
What the Government says
Whom Do We Agree With?
Zaprudor Film: A silent, color motion picture filmed by a private citizen named Abraham Zaprudor with a home camera. It is not the only video, but it is the most complete.
• In 1976 the House of Representatives created Select Committee on Assassinations
During these meetings scientists provided acoustic evidence of four shooters in Dealey Plaza
This contradicts the three shots by Lee Harvey Oswald, suggesting more shooters
Evidence For Theory
Many witnesses who's statements pointed to conspiracy were ignored or intimidated by the Warren
Some even received death threats
Allegations of mysterious or suspicious deaths of witnesses connected to the assassination
Jim Marr (writer) produced a list of 103 people he believed died “convenient deaths”
Many mafia figures were likely murdered to prevent them from revealing their knowledge
Evidence was confiscated, including photos and videos
Start at 2:48 for the "magic bullet"
12 Year-old boy named Mason at Sparks Middle School in Nevada.
Rushed to teachers aid, came face to face with shooter.
Shooter shot him in the abdomen, but bullet went around stomach.
• The CIA wanted to complete political assassinations on “dangerous” leaders of other countries
Fidel Castro; Vietnam’s president Diem
They had alliance with Mafia members to complete these hits
• Lyndon B. Johnson was President John F. Kennedy’s Vice President, therefore his successor
• On October 11, 1963 President John F. Kennedy signed National Security Action Memorandum no.263
Favors a reduced role of U.S. military in South Vietnam
One man named Lee Harvey Oswald Shot three bullets hitting the President twice and eventually killing him.
He was arrested 80 minutes later and charged.
Two days later he was shot and killed at the Dallas police station on live TV
Was killed by Jack Ruby
Acted alone without influence for reasons not completely known.
House Select Committee on Assassinations launched second major investigation in 1976.
analyzed recordings of the police radio transmissions
concluded from the recordings that there was at least one shot fired from grassy knoll
No rifleman has ever duplicated the shooting feat attributed to Lee Harvey Oswald, the alleged single assassin.
one gunman scored two hits out of three shots in 6 to 9 seconds while firing at a moving target from 60 feet up using a Mannlicher-Carcano bolt-action rifle
Evidence for Theory
We as a group have decided upon the Governments released solution to the assassination. We believe that the theory that best fits the evidence is the theory that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone to Kill President Kennedy.
In a 2003 Abc News poll, 70% of Americans reported that they believe Kennedy's death was part of broader plot.
Lee Harvey Oswald
Sharpshooter capable of making the shot.
Hired at the Texas School Book Depository on October 16th.
This was before Kennedy's route was planned and released on November 19th
Little connection with the mafia, had a history of losing his temper, if mob was responsible, a continuous cycle of killing would ensue in order to make sure no one would know He died on January 3, 1967 due to lung cancer
Explanation of "Magic Bullet"
Positions of the President and the Governor create a straight line that is possible to have been shot from Oswald's position.
Theory of the Secret Service Officer shot
Could account for "ghost shot" or one of the three shots.
Lee Harvey Oswald:
Oswald not in league with Cubans or Russians
neither could trust him as a defector (too obvious)
Castro was interviewed and stated that assassinating Kennedy would have led to the invasion of Cuba which is not what he wanted
CIA: no plausible connection to the CIA
nothing on being an informant or having any history with the CIA
