A tsunami is a huge wave that can wipe out a whole town
A tsunami only occurs when an earthquake happens in a nearby continent.
If an earthquake were to happen or a plate moving in the ocean it will cause a tsunami

The Tohoku tsunami caused 15,883 deaths and 6,150 injured

The Tohoku tsunami also did a lot of damage to buildings. 129,225 buildings were totally collapsed 254,204 half collapsed and 691,766 partially damaged.
The earthquake that tsunami was so big that it moved Japan 2.4 meters closer to America.
It cost the US 34 billion dollars to help repair.

It also destroyed 230,000 cars and buses.
The Tohoku Electric Power (TEP) was not able to power the Kanto part of Japan due to water in the system
Tohoku's transportation system was also severely damaged.

Tohoku's air field (Matsushima Air Field) was severely damaged so all Mitsubishi F-2 fighter jets could not take off.
754 cultural buildings were damaged due to the tsunami and earthquake.
At the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant the cooling system failed so the radiation levels went up causing everyone to evacuate.
A 220,000-barrel oil company set fire during the Tsunami and Earthquake.
All of Japan's ports were closed for a long amount of time after the Tsunami, though the ones in Tokyo and were soon reopened
The Fujinuma irrigation dam was was completely washed away after the tsunami.
This caused 5 homes to wash away
The Japan tsunami Tohoku, was formed by a megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan
