Transcript of THE YELLOW WALLPAPER - POINT OF VIEW

What is the POV?
First person
The main character tells the story from her perspective
Told as journal entries (epistolary story)
"John says I mustn't lose my strength, and has me take cod liver oils and lots of tonics and things, to say nothing of ale and wine and rare meat."
"At night in any kind of light, in twilight, candle light, lamplight, and worst of all, moonlight, it becomes bars! The outside pattern I mean, and the woman behind it is as plain as can be."
Why is This POV Best For This Story?
We are able to see the narrator's descent into insanity
This gives us the opportunity to see how she became deranged
We would have not understood the story, and her character if it was told from a different POV
How Does this POV Impact the Story?
We see her thoughts, the way she feels, and her decision making process
The narrator also impacts the readers perspective on the story and characters
