A Few More Pages
My teacher didn't teach me that last year...
I've never seen anything like this before...
Do these thoughts ever cross your mind?
I don't remember this...
easy to understand
set up using
left & right sides
If you put in the
, your ISN will become your own personal textbook and how-to guide for this course!
Your ISN will be even more useful
so you can review everything you learned this year!
Do your notes end up here?
Does this look familiar?
Uh...I think that paper is here somewhere...
I did my homework, but I can't find it...
I can't find those notes...
I threw that away after the test...
I didn't think we needed to keep it...
How will it help me?
It makes learning interactive...
...which means less boring!
It allows you to be creative with your learning...
...so learning will be fun!
It allows you to take ownership of your learning...
...so you will remember what you have learned!
It keeps all of your notes in one place...
...so you can easily find information you need!
Much more interesting than regular note-taking, bookwork, and worksheets!
What is it?
Are you ready?
Let's get started!
Note: If you finish a page before we move on to the next one, go back to the pages we have already completed and make them unique using color and APPROPRIATE DOODLES
*This means doodles that pertain to the subject matter on that page! Ex: The Title Page is about you, so you could doodle things you like.
One person from each group should grab a basket of supplies from the table. You should be back in your seat when the music ends.
Decorate Your Notebook
Use stickers, doodles, magazine cut-outs, pictures, etc. to decorate your ISN and make it your own. Have fun, but remember...school appropriate!

Table of Contents
The front and back of two pages and the front of another page should be setup like this! We will complete a few entries once we have it all setup.
2 Policies & Expectations
3 ISN Info & Rules/Reason
4 Most Important Things to Remember
6 Parent Information Session
a table of contents helps you find where those pages are
everything is taped in so it can't get lost
all pages have a number
and drawn so that
notes are taken using
so you can easily look back to help you find & learn new information & review previously learned information
This side is for
This is where you
will practice new
skills and ideas.
This side will help
you study and
to do things.
This side will help
you figure out if
is going on.
Beginning with the first page on the right after the TOC, you should number all of the pages in your ISN except for the last four. Numbers should be placed in the upper outside section on each page (see below). All even numbers will be on the left, and all odd numbers will be on the right. If you do it correctly, you should end on pg. 188.
You will have 5 minutes now, and the rest should be completed at home.
Before you complain...I made 2 notebooks, so...
This one we have to do together, so keep up with me!
1. Glue your Grading Information Sheet
on Page 2 of your ISN.

Most Important Things to Remember
FOR HOMEWORK: Write the 5 things you think are the most important things to remember about this class & your ISN.
Trace your hand on page 4
We use the ISN daily.
The information in your ISN is
important and you are responsible
for all of it.
All pages will be used and it
maintains the structural integrity
of the book.
To be able to look back and read
notes, examples, and activities.
Vocabulary is an essential part
of learning and using math
(Teacher's Name) would not write
anything that is not valuable
to your learning.
Colors are great, but using pencil
for all math work lets you erase
It's your notebook...Make it
something you like and easier
for you to remember.
Tape your Group Roles and Responsibilities on Page 5 of your ISN.
Parent Discussion Assignment

Discuss the topics on the assignment sheet with your parent/guardian and have them sign the page.

What I Think The Unit Will Help Me With:
ME...at a glance & Learning Style Info
Use the information from your Learning Style Inventories to complete your ME...at a glance Sheet. Trim the extra paper off the outside of the sheet and glue it on the inside of the front cover of your ISN.
I will hand out information sheets about your Personality Color, Learning Styles, and Multiple Intelligences. Trim the extra paper off the outside of those sheets. We will glue them in together on Pages 186 & 187 of your ISN, so pay attention and follow directions as they are given!
On the very last two lines of your TOC, write the following entries:
188 Translating Words Into Math
186-187 Learning Style Information
Glue your Clock Buddies Sheet on the inside of the back cover of your ISN. I will fill in most of the times for you, but you can choose the names you put in 2 o'clock, 5 o'clock (two names), and 8 o'clock.
REMEMBER: If you write someone's name for that time, they should have your name for that time on their sheet.
Numbers About Me
Use Numbers About YOU to decorate the page on the back side of the title page. Be creative and use any numbers that apply to you. You will have 5 minutes now and any time we have left at the end of class. You will not have enough time to finish, so you will have to work some at home. Here are some examples of Numbers About ME!
Now it's time to REALLY get started!

Attach a Bookmark
Use one of the pieces of ribbon to make a bookmark for your ISN. Tie knot in one end of the ribbon. Tape the other end in the top right corner of your back cover making sure the knotted end hangs out of the top of your ISN. Mrs. Holcomb has an example.
