Ian Thorpe At the age of 15, Ian Thorpe became the first youngest to represent Australia, and his victory in the 400 meter freestyle at the 1998 Perth World Championship, making him the youngest male individuall World Champion. Thorpey has won five Olympic gold medals, the most won by any Australian, and in 2001 he became the first person to win six gold medals in one world Championship. in total, Thorpey has won eleven World Chamionship gold's, the scond highest number of any swimmer.
