  1. Hi, My name is Mia me Born.
  2. And I am supposed to be on the screen.
  3. As you see, there's a little section on the left that's empty.
  4. That's where my face supposed to be. But I have tried recording
  5. The video with my face about 5-10 times and it will not record right.
  6. It keeps being choppy and I keep loading too late.
  7. So I'm just gonna present with my voice.
  8. I really try hard to get my picture in the left side, but it's just not working for me.
  9. But I hope he can still gain information without seeing me.
  10. But my presentation is only laws regarding the women in the old testament.
  11. Um Some of the other presentations were based on just one woman.
  12. Mine is based on all the women in the laws they had to obey within the bible.
  13. And I'll be going over the introduction, the context,
  14. the formal and detailed analysis, the synthesis and the cultural interpretation.
  15. Mhm.
  16. The introduction.
  17. There are laws everywhere within the bible.
  18. Many believe that laws were given to women
  19. were very harsh or unnecessary because the women were seen as inferior to men.
  20. So the women were never seen as the top. The men were the top.
  21. The men controlled everything. The men control what the women did.
  22. How do women speak? How do women dress?
  23. The men just controlled everything.
  24. The women had no say and nothing that they wanted to do.
  25. They were here just to birth Children cook and maintain the house as the
  26. men go work and handle everything else that was needed for their living.
  27. Continuing on since women were seen as inferior to men.
  28. It shows why the laws regarding women in the old testament were harsh and strict.
  29. But why was the old testament so harsh? Like?
  30. What were their laws regarding the women?
  31. The old testament seems harsh to many individuals
  32. by the circumstances and the old testament.
  33. That makes it hard to understand.
  34. And that could be by the language barrier.
  35. How do you express themselves or just understanding what they were trying to say?
  36. Some of the laws for the women seem outrageous and harsh,
  37. although the women did not obey some of the orders.
  38. But it is the principle of the orders that were given to them
  39. the majority of the time that men can do no wrong.
  40. Although there were some punishments for men to in laws for men to obey.
  41. But the women could be seen as unclean could not
  42. get a divorce or choose who they wanted to marry.
  43. My focus is on exodus Leviticus and Deuteronomy and Deuteronomy.
  44. Deuteronomy is the based on all the laws in the bible for the men and women.
  45. Next is the context.
  46. So we are starting off with exodus.
  47. When a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married and lives with her,
  48. he shall give the bride price for her and make her his wife.
  49. That is exodus 22 16.
  50. But if her father refuses to give her to him, he shall pat pat.
  51. He shall pay an amount equal to the broad price for virgins and that's exodus 20-17.
  52. So exit is 20 - 16. The women were seen as property to his father.
  53. If a man has a sexual relations with a woman, he's supposed to marry her,
  54. that's the person he is supposed to be with.
  55. If the father does not want them to be married to one another,
  56. the man has to pay the father for damaging his property, which is his daughter.
  57. The money would be seen as composition for the damage to the father's property,
  58. which is his daughter because no one wants to marry a non virgin.
  59. It will be difficult to find somebody that wanted to marry.
  60. A woman has already been slow with will say
  61. a girl in principle belongs with her and her father's
  62. household until she marries and enters her husband's household,
  63. which it starts all over again.
  64. The same cycle of her following the rules within her husband's household,
  65. Leviticus 1519.
  66. When a woman has a discharge discharge of blood,
  67. that is her regular discharge from her body.
  68. She shall be in her impurity for seven days and
  69. whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening.
  70. That's Leviticus 1519.
  71. This is something that women goes through nowadays, but it's not seen as unclean.
  72. It's something that's just natural and that happens.
  73. But during the old testament times, it was seen as unclean until the evening
  74. after the seventies.
  75. And
  76. when women have their cycle,
  77. it is seen as unclean and anything she touches late or sit on is unclean.
  78. If anyone touches the same thing as the woman, they are now unclean and need to bathe,
  79. wash their clothes and be unclean until the evening.
  80. May a man lie with her while she is unclean,
  81. he will be unclean for seven days and everybody he lies on is unclean.
  82. Once the woman is cleansed from the discharge, on the 8th day,
  83. she should take her two turtledoves or pigeons to the priest and the priest shall
  84. offer her one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.
  85. And the priest shall make atonement on her behalf before the Lord.
  86. For unclean discharge. And that's leviticus 15 30
  87. Deuteronomy 22 20. If a man wants to marry a woman, he believes she is not a virgin.
  88. The father must provide proof of her purity.
  89. If however, discharge is true,
  90. the evidence of the young woman's virginity was not found,
  91. then they shall bring the women,
  92. the young woman out to the interest of her father's house and the men of
  93. her town shall stone her to death because
  94. she committed a disgraceful act in Israel by
  95. prostituting herself in her father's house. That's Deuteronomy 22 20.
  96. Women were expected to stay here until they
  97. were married because it was seen as unlawful,
  98. but it was not the same laws for the men,
  99. Deuteronomy 24 1.
  100. When a man becomes married to a woman and she does not please him, he may divorce her.
  101. The woman would have to leave his house and go marry another man.
  102. Suppose her second husband wants a divorce or dies.
  103. The first husband does not have to take her back. For that would be
  104. adherent to the Lord.
  105. And you shall not bring guilt on the land that
  106. the Lord your God is giving you as a position.
  107. Deuteronomy 24 4,
  108. men were only allowed to divorce the women. Women
  109. cannot divorce the man regardless of how she felt.
  110. If the man takes her back after she married a second time and it failed.
  111. They were looked down upon and seen as disgraceful.
  112. Deuteronomy 25 5.
  113. If brothers live together and one of them dies,
  114. the living brother must marry his wife because she
  115. is not allowed to marry outside of the family.
  116. Her husband's brother shall go in
  117. to her, take her,
  118. taking her in marriage and performing the duties of
  119. her husband's brother to her and the firstborn,
  120. whom she bears shall succeed to the name of the deceased brother,
  121. so that his name may not be blotted out of Israel
  122. Deuteronomy 25 5, they have to continue the lazy of the brother that has passed on.
  123. Those were the main laws that I discussed that I have found that
  124. was based on just the women in the bible didn't mention the men,
  125. the animals, or anything else within the bible.
  126. Yeah,
  127. moving on to the formal and detailed analysis
  128. regarding the loss for the women in the old testament and limited them for men
  129. able to
  130. Do as they please.
  131. And they were they had to honor the man exited 22
  132. and focuses on the daughters being controlled by her father.
  133. The father controls whether his daughter can leave his house, she is his property.
  134. They state how the man must pay the father for damage,
  135. which is which was sexual of his property.
  136. Leviticus explains the bali discharge of a woman seen as unclean.
  137. She could not lay or sit on anyone or anything.
  138. If she does so, the person or furniture was unclean.
  139. It needs to be washed after following into Deuteronomy.
  140. These laws are based on the women being pure.
  141. What a man and if she is not, she would be stoned to the the last two states.
  142. How women cannot divorce man.
  143. If her husband died, she would have to marry his brother, not
  144. anyone outside the family.
  145. The key points of these laws, so that women do not control their life.
  146. They were to please and provide for the men. Women were property of men.
  147. So the detailed analysis for exodus
  148. Exodus 22.
  149. When a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married and lives with her.
  150. He shall give her the bride price for her and make her his wife.
  151. But if her father refuses to give her to him,
  152. he shall pay an amount equal to the broad price for virgins.
  153. The main purpose of this verse is if the daughter
  154. partakes in sexual actions while in her father home,
  155. the man must marry her or pay the father back for damage.
  156. A girl impress world,
  157. belongs with her father's household until she
  158. marries and says her husband's household.
  159. It is stating that she is her father's property until she is married,
  160. Leviticus Leviticus 1519.
  161. When a woman has bodily discharge of blood,
  162. that is her regular discharge from her body,
  163. she shall be in her impurity for seven days and
  164. whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening.
  165. During this time,
  166. the woman transmitted impurity by direct contact or indirectly
  167. via anything of which she said or like,
  168. even though it is natural and normal process for women, it is seen as impurity.
  169. And unclean
  170. 1530 to reach out, offer one for it
  171. for a sin offering the other for a burnt offering the priest
  172. out making atonement on her behalf before the Lord for her unclean discharge
  173. discharge, moderate translation for bodily
  174. excretion that rendered one is their only unclean.
  175. The woman is asking for forgiveness of her sins due to the bodily discharge.
  176. So do the agronomy,
  177. Explain in verse 22 20. I'm not gonna read read it again in this verse.
  178. If a man wants to marry a woman, but question her purity, then my family
  179. prove her innocence.
  180. A man did not want a woman who was not pure and if she was not pure,
  181. the town man was throwing herself at the front of her home.
  182. It was disgraced to commit sexual acts with a man out of wedlock.
  183. 24.
  184. For the woman returned to her original husband is
  185. considered disgusting because following her marriage to another man,
  186. she is defiled.
  187. This explains how it would be a disgrace to the lord for
  188. the woman to back to her first husband after marrying another man.
  189. Continuing Deuteronomy 25 9.
  190. The woman should not marry anyone outside the family and must marry his brother.
  191. This child should be named after the deceased to carry his name.
  192. And the brother does not agree to marry his brother shall go up.
  193. Should I go up to him in the presence of the elders,
  194. pull his hand off his foot, spit in his face and declared,
  195. this is what is done to the man who does not build up his brother's house.
  196. The synthesis.
  197. It appears from my research that men were trying
  198. to control the women and tell them what they could
  199. and could not do with their life consistently making sure
  200. they were pure and clean for their knees limited that
  201. what they could do regarding the marriage or who they marry from their father and
  202. husband have a control of them as if they were a piece of property.
  203. All the laws I have discussed within this paper would
  204. be a surprise to many and catch them off guard.
  205. They will not expect old testament to be so harsh.
  206. The old testament is very different than the new testament.
  207. It is straightforward, blunt and intense.
  208. It can be tempting to feel like old testament is something to be embarrassed about,
  209. which is
  210. misogyny accounts of genocide. Sexual repressive rules.
  211. Doing research in the laws regarding women.
  212. The old testament has talked a lot about the requirements of women back then
  213. they were having a tough time being themselves and doing as they please.
  214. They were consistently controlled by others.
  215. Even though most of the laws were trying to be the best interests of the women,
  216. having them obey God in every way possible.
  217. You can learn more from reading the old testament
  218. that you will not get from the new testament.
  219. It is all about how you
  220. interpret the message and understand it
  221. now. The cultural interpretation,
  222. the piece of art that's below is about producers and sorceress, Sirs.
  223. It presents, it presents man and a woman portrayed as a witch.
  224. And if a man seduces a woman who is not enraged, engaged and lives with her,
  225. he must pay a dowry for her to be his wife
  226. and her father actually refuses to give her to him.
  227. He shall pay money equal to the dowry. Of urgency.
  228. Should not allow a sorceress to live.
  229. So it's basically saying this really is focused on a man getting with a
  230. virgin before they are married when she still lives at home with her father.
  231. This man destroyed
  232. the father's property,
  233. the daughter and now owes him by marrying his daughter
  234. or if the father do not allow the marriage,
  235. he has to pay the price.
  236. One of the main focus is ended interpreting art is that this shows how marriage is
  237. honored and a woman needs their parents consent
  238. by doing them doing wrong.
  239. They both suffer punishments from the man doing wrong and the woman suffering from
  240. wrong and the father is the one with all the power in art.
  241. The woman is depicted as a sorcerer which is a
  242. witch because mainly females were associated with witches and witchcraft.
  243. They believe that women were
  244. presenting sorcerers for premarital sex because the women is seen
  245. as seductive that only have one more demise in mind.
  246. Overall from this image,
  247. it shows men surrounding sorcerer who has seduced them in which
  248. this leads to the act of premarital sex and scripture,
  249. causing a man to be with the women
  250. without marriage and now has to suffer the punishment
  251. of marrying a woman or paying up on the back for the damage he has caused.
  252. The
  253. Lastly Leviticus 1530 discusses presenting a burnt offering and
  254. send offer to the women in her unclean discharge
  255. the past seventies.
  256. The very offering is the first and the vehicle in the Otis.
  257. most comment of the offers.
  258. This was an offering with the worshiper voluntarily devoting his
  259. whole offering to God through the fire Exodus 29 18.
  260. The whole offering goes up in smoke, providing a sweet smelling aroma to the Lord.
  261. The purpose of the burnt offerings to give your whole education to God.
  262. Before the burnt offerings presented, there's a send off for the sin offering.
  263. The offering of a goat for the sins and the artwork.
  264. You can see the priest preparing to fire for the burnt offering.
  265. The priest has to do three things. First, prepare the wood for the fire.
  266. Second Sprinkle blood on officer.
  267. In third place at this memory, animals, body on the fire.
  268. The fire should last until morning to even more for daily sacrifice to the next.
  269. These
  270. offerings are a way for people to ask for forgiveness for the sins.
  271. Whereas today people would give gifts for verbally apologize
  272. for their forgiveness instead of offering animals to burn
  273. Also.
  274. Today,
  275. we will go to the church and go to the altars to ask for
  276. forgiveness instead of providing offers for the pastor or priest in our own time.
  277. And with our own words,
  278. we speak to the Lord and ask him to forgive us for all of our sins.
  279. So with that being said,
  280. that is my presentation on the laws regarding women in the old testament and
  281. the laws that I have found regarding just based on women in the bible.
  282. Thank you so much for listening, and I hope you'll have a great day. Bye.
