00:01 - 00:04
welcome back to your very first course here in the
00:04 - 00:04
many career course.
00:05 - 00:06
And the first thing we want to do is to
00:07 - 00:08
define our skills and our values.
00:09 - 00:11
And you might ask, Why are we actually doing this?
00:11 - 00:13
I already know what I'm capable of doing.
00:13 - 00:15
And what about the whole values thing?
00:15 - 00:19
Well, I'm sure that you've are fully aware of what
00:19 - 00:21
we're capable, but we want to take a minute to
00:21 - 00:25
just fully review that become crystal clear so that that
00:25 - 00:28
becomes then the foundation of our the resume in the
00:28 - 00:31
interview and ultimately your success and your job search.
00:32 - 00:34
So the first thing we want to look at is
00:34 - 00:35
the transferrable skills.
00:35 - 00:39
And those transferrable skills are especially important for those of
00:39 - 00:41
you that are looking to go into maybe a different
00:41 - 00:46
industry, either by by the circumstance that you're in or
00:46 - 00:49
because you're deciding to go somewhere somewhere else.
00:49 - 00:50
Try out something else.
00:51 - 00:54
Um, you are deciding that you passion maybe like somewhere
00:54 - 00:56
else, than where you have been up to this point.
00:57 - 01:01
Eso those transferrable skills then are super important for us
01:01 - 01:04
to show our abilities and how they apply from our
01:04 - 01:09
previous careers um to what we're looking to apply for
01:09 - 01:11
so really, really important to pick those out, to have
01:12 - 01:15
those readily available, they also become the in foundation of
01:15 - 01:19
your resume and s o those are Those are the
01:19 - 01:22
skills that you want to transfer from whatever you have
01:22 - 01:26
experience to this point, Thio, wherever you are trying to
01:26 - 01:30
go, once we have looked at transferrable skills, we're gonna
01:31 - 01:33
go look at soft skills and you might find actually
01:34 - 01:36
that some of this is overlapping and that is totally
01:37 - 01:38
normal. That's totally okay.
01:38 - 01:40
However, we still want to take a look at those
01:40 - 01:41
soft skills.
01:41 - 01:45
So, while for the transferrable skills, I would suggest to
01:45 - 01:48
pick 5 to 7 of those he and the soft
01:48 - 01:50
skills I would add maybe two or three additional ones
01:51 - 01:52
that weren't in the transferrable skills.
01:53 - 01:56
The soft skills are the skills that allow us to
01:56 - 02:00
successfully interact with others and then ultimately achieved success throughout
02:01 - 02:01
our entire career.
02:02 - 02:06
Ah, nde um from there, then we want to take
02:06 - 02:10
a look at technical skills so our technical skills are
02:11 - 02:12
really dependent on the industry.
02:12 - 02:14
But we also want to take a look at maybe
02:15 - 02:15
one of this.
02:16 - 02:17
Can I apply somewhere else?
02:18 - 02:21
So, for example, in aviation, there's a lot of safety
02:21 - 02:23
management involves, which is very industry specific.
02:24 - 02:27
But there are other industries said require safety management.
02:28 - 02:31
So how can you apply that, for example, pushback Director
02:31 - 02:31
in aviation.
02:32 - 02:36
How can you try to use that to maybe operates,
02:38 - 02:41
um, other heavy equipment in other industries so really, really
02:41 - 02:44
important that we pick us out those technical skills as
02:44 - 02:45
well as we go along?
02:46 - 02:48
And then we want to take a look at the
02:48 - 02:51
values which are are getting principles in life.
02:52 - 02:54
So we want to be really clear about what is
02:54 - 02:55
actually important to us.
02:56 - 03:00
What do what do we need actually to be able
03:01 - 03:04
to feel fulfilled our values, help us make decisions.
03:04 - 03:07
If you go and you do your research around any
03:08 - 03:11
type of company, you will see every any company actually
03:11 - 03:14
has the corporate values or most of them do on
03:14 - 03:14
their website.
03:15 - 03:18
And knowing your own values and looking at there's gives
03:18 - 03:20
you a really good clue around the culture that you
03:20 - 03:25
might experience the things how this company is run and
03:25 - 03:28
is that actually in alignment with yours now That doesn't
03:28 - 03:30
mean that your values have to be the exact same.
03:30 - 03:33
But you want to make sure that there things are
03:33 - 03:37
compatible and that you don't feel like there's something that
03:37 - 03:38
I just don't feel good about.
03:39 - 03:41
And I don't feel like this is a value that
03:41 - 03:42
I stand behind.
03:43 - 03:45
So we're all different that as human beings.
03:45 - 03:48
And so this is definitely something that we wanna pay
03:48 - 03:49
attention attention to.
03:50 - 03:52
And and so then that becomes an integral part, actually,
03:52 - 03:55
in your in your job search, because then you can
03:55 - 03:56
decide this is where I want to apply.
03:57 - 03:59
And this is where I don't want to apply with
03:59 - 04:02
that being said, Best of luck and filling out this
04:02 - 04:05
section. And I'm looking forward to seeing you in the
04:05 - 04:08
next section, which is around creating a career plan A
04:08 - 04:08
so
