  1. for this less than we're going to talk about probability,
  2. likelihood and do a little refresher on fractions, decimals and
  3. percents. Let's start out with probability.
  4. We have two different models we need to talk about.
  5. 1st 1 on the left is our uniform model.
  6. As you can see, we have a colored spinner that
  7. has all equal parts.
  8. So what exactly does that mean?
  9. Well, that means I have a 25% chance of spinning
  10. and landing on red and blue and green and yellow.
  11. They all have the same probability.
  12. However, if you look at non uniform model on the
  13. right, you can see that red and green are much
  14. larger than blue and yellow, so I have a higher
  15. chance of spinning and landing on red and green.
  16. Then I do.
  17. If I spend and try and land on blue or
  18. yellow Next, we need to talk about the likelihood the
  19. likelihood is the chance of an event occurring.
  20. It is usually between zero and one was zero being
  21. impossible and one being certain.
  22. So we're gonna try this out in a few examples.
  23. The 1st 1 says you will win the grand prize
  24. in a raffle if you purchase two of the 100
  25. tickets, so that would be unlikely for you toe win,
  26. since you only have two tickets.
  27. However, it is not impossible because you did purchase two
  28. tickets. Number two, you will wait less than 10 minutes
  29. before ordering at a fast food restaurant.
  30. Typically, if you go to a fast food restaurant now,
  31. Chick fil A might not be included cause that might
  32. be a little longer.
  33. But wait, but typically there pretty fast.
  34. So I would say that is very likely that you
  35. were gonna wait less than 10 minutes.
  36. Number three says you will get an even number when
  37. you roll.
  38. A standard number die.
  39. So that is just a basic dice that you were
  40. rolling. And that would be equally likely because there are
  41. three on numbers and there are three even numbers on
  42. a cube.
  43. Number four says a four year old is over six
  44. feet tall.
  45. I've honestly never met a four year old over six
  46. feet, so I would say that is almost impossible or
  47. very unlikely.
  48. Number five says the next baby born at a hospital
  49. will be a boy now, the next baby warm born
  50. at a hospital will either be a boy or a
  51. girl, so that is equally likely that it would happen.
  52. And last one, Number six, It will snow at our
  53. school on July 1st.
  54. That is impossible in July.
  55. Weird close to 80 degrees, if not in the nineties.
  56. Close to 100.
  57. That is not gonna happen next.
  58. We need to talk about functions.
  59. Ressam, ALS and percents.
  60. How do we convert from fractions to decimals?
  61. Don't forget that.
  62. You need to divide the didn't numerator by the denominator
  63. using long division.
  64. How do you convert decimals?
  65. 2%. Move the decimal point.
  66. Two places to the right.
  67. And lastly, fractions.
  68. 2% or vice versa for percents.
  69. Two fractions.
  70. Remove the percent sign in place the number over 100
  71. and then simplify.
  72. Now, here are a few that I would like you
  73. to try on your own.
  74. Good luck.
  75. Let me know if you need any help.
