00:01 - 00:02
hi science teachers.
00:03 - 00:05
I wanted to provide you with a few updates about
00:05 - 00:09
November 2nd Monday, the P D Day and document cameras
00:10 - 00:13
and pump bottles for hand sanitizer that you can get
00:13 - 00:14
through your curriculum department.
00:14 - 00:18
And then also some tips for concurrent learning as we
00:18 - 00:20
begin that the next coming weeks.
00:22 - 00:26
So November seconds on Monday, the schedule for the day,
00:27 - 00:31
um, 8 to 10 is the way forward strands, and
00:31 - 00:32
10 15 to 11.
00:33 - 00:35
30 is just going to be an open secondary science
00:36 - 00:37
curriculum chat.
00:37 - 00:39
So any questions you have brainstorming?
00:40 - 00:42
Um, meeting as a PLC.
00:43 - 00:47
If you have ah, Singleton course anything like that feel
00:47 - 00:48
free to jump on.
00:48 - 00:51
Also, if you're all set on, don't have any questions.
00:52 - 00:55
As faras curriculum goes or don't know any support there.
00:55 - 00:57
I don't feel that you have to attend.
00:57 - 00:58
Do what is best for you.
00:59 - 01:00
Um and then 11.
01:01 - 01:01
30 to 3.
01:02 - 01:03
30 is teacher work time.
01:06 - 01:10
So document cameras and, um, pump bottles for hand sanitizer.
01:12 - 01:16
We have a few of the dual document camera webcam
01:16 - 01:20
combos available for check out still in the curriculum department.
01:20 - 01:23
So let me know if you would like one of
01:23 - 01:26
those for your classroom and then also, we have some
01:26 - 01:29
empty 16 ounce pump bottles that you can use for
01:29 - 01:34
hand sanitizer for your lab stations for your you know,
01:34 - 01:34
around your classroom.
01:35 - 01:37
So let me know if you would like some of
01:37 - 01:38
those as well.
01:42 - 01:44
And finally, some tips for concurrent learning.
01:46 - 01:49
First, a few definitions, um, Rockwood at home.
01:50 - 01:52
You know, that's what we've kind of been doing.
01:52 - 01:54
Its virtual This could look different.
01:55 - 01:58
Um, you know, in second semester, but as of right
01:58 - 02:00
now, we still have Rockwood at home.
02:00 - 02:03
We also obviously are going to be starting Rockwood at
02:03 - 02:07
school. But in that purple section, that's where a lot
02:07 - 02:10
of our second order instruction is going to live, where
02:10 - 02:13
it's going to be, um, concurrent with E.
02:14 - 02:16
Rockwood at home in Rockwood.
02:16 - 02:19
At school, you will have some students virtually as well
02:19 - 02:19
as in person.
02:24 - 02:29
So some tips for that so don't try toe plan
02:30 - 02:31
to completely different courses.
02:32 - 02:35
Instead, think about your goals for the class and what
02:35 - 02:37
you wants your student understandings to be.
02:38 - 02:41
Also try to use the same materials in both settings.
02:42 - 02:46
Try Thio have dual purpose for that take remote learning
02:47 - 02:48
first approach to planning.
02:49 - 02:51
So that's what we've kind of been doing from the
02:51 - 02:53
get go with starting the school year.
02:54 - 02:56
So continuing that approach until you feel comfortable.
03:04 - 03:09
So also, instead of doing large discussions trying smaller discussions,
03:10 - 03:12
we had a little bit of feedback from fourth that
03:12 - 03:15
has already been in session and have had kids quarantine
03:16 - 03:18
throughout their school year already.
03:18 - 03:22
And, um, they had a lot of suggestions about having
03:22 - 03:26
some independent work before doing full group work, having smaller
03:26 - 03:27
discussion groups than that.
03:29 - 03:32
Also giving students a classroom job, maybe being a chat
03:33 - 03:39
monitor, um, helping out students that are virtual, um, for
03:39 - 03:43
the teacher also using instructional strategies that work.
03:43 - 03:47
So we've had a couple of fourty teachers as well
03:47 - 03:50
provide feedback about using virtual stations for their classroom.
03:51 - 03:53
So finding something that you were, that works for you
03:54 - 03:55
and then sticking to it.
03:56 - 04:01
Also using existing technology tools for both groups.
04:01 - 04:03
So something that students are familiar with that you're familiar
04:04 - 04:05
with get into a routine.
04:12 - 04:15
Also plan one or two weeks at a time, doing
04:15 - 04:18
smaller chunks, trying to avoid planning for a long period
04:18 - 04:21
of time, a quarter all at once, get to know
04:21 - 04:24
your students and build a community that's going to be
04:24 - 04:28
important as we continue with second order students and having
04:28 - 04:32
new students in our classrooms allow students to work in
04:32 - 04:36
small groups and giving students similar due dates or the
04:36 - 04:37
same due dates.
04:37 - 04:40
Getting keeping track of multiple due dates could be taxing,
04:46 - 04:48
being honest with your students, letting them know that you're
04:48 - 04:49
trying something new and then it may not work.
04:50 - 04:53
Allow students to participate without turning their camera on.
04:53 - 04:56
I know this has been a big thing that in
04:57 - 05:00
quarter one and in the spring, but keeping that option
05:00 - 05:05
open for students asking for student input and being patient
05:06 - 05:08
with yourself and your students don't expect that everything is
05:08 - 05:10
going to go smoothing because it may not.
05:14 - 05:16
So those are some of my tips that I had
05:16 - 05:17
for concurrent learning.
05:17 - 05:19
Obviously, you could take them or leave them.
05:19 - 05:22
Um, please let me know if you have any questions,
05:23 - 05:24
or if there's some way that I can support you
05:25 - 05:27
as a teacher or your PLC or your department asshole.
05:28 - 05:29
Thank you
