  1. everyone, everybody, we're jen and Stephen Freind missionaries with south
  2. american mission currently serving in Peru.
  3. And we're so excited this month to be sending you
  4. this update from lima.
  5. We finally made it um, for those of you who
  6. have been with us on this journey, uh you remember
  7. we arrived to Peru in september of 2019.
  8. We studied in a city in southern Peru for the
  9. next six months and we're all ready to move to
  10. lima in March of 2020.
  11. Win Covid hit.
  12. And so all of our plans changed.
  13. We ended up serving there for the next nine months
  14. until we could finally move here in january.
  15. And when we got here in january, the second wave
  16. of Covid was just hitting the country.
  17. And so we got to lima and went right into
  18. another lockdown that honestly, that was really frustrating.
  19. But through it all, we've, we've been able to see
  20. how God amidst this circumstance is opening new doors for
  21. ministry and we'd like to share some of that with
  22. you in this video we also just want to share.
  23. He's been a very much at work in our hearts.
  24. I think what we're seeing is a deeper dependency on
  25. him. Learning what it means to fix our eyes on
  26. jesus, amidst the storms.
  27. That's a hard lesson.
  28. But it has been really important for both of us,
  29. I think as well, learning to open our hands to
  30. God's plan for our life in his will, um, has
  31. been something has been teaching us for a long time.
  32. But I think with the added stress of Covid, we've
  33. we've realized how much we like to cling to our
  34. plans and our our way and learning to open our
  35. hands and trust in his sovereignty over those things is
  36. really, really important.
  37. We'd like to share with you just a few pictures
  38. from what we've been able to do during our time
  39. in lima.
  40. The Lord has allowed us access into uh, some more
  41. poverty stricken areas of the, of the city.
  42. And we're working a lot with common pot ministries.
  43. Um, so that's been a really neat community to join
  44. with. Um, lima is a desert area, so water is
  45. scarce. And so you think of during a pandemic, the
  46. importance of hygiene and washing hands.
  47. That's not something that's easy to do when you don't
  48. have access to clean water.
  49. So we've been able to bring up water tanks.
  50. Also some water filters so they can have clean drinking
  51. water. And that's been really need to partner and actually
  52. be out with social distancing and code restrictions getting to
  53. be the light of christ in these communities.
  54. But please continue to pray for peru The COVID-19 conditions
  55. have certainly not lessened.
  56. Um, we're just seeing the vaccine has arrived, but it's
  57. going to be rolled out very slowly.
  58. And so we're seeing a high need and scarcity of
  59. oxygen and it's just really hard to witness families just
  60. seeking oxygen for their loved ones because the medical and
  61. hospital systems are just collapsed there too stressed.
  62. So please pray that God would reveal himself as the
  63. provider and that his peace would come upon these people
  64. that we can continue to share that light in such
  65. dark times.
  66. Yes. Would you also pray for us as we embark
  67. on a new project for the year as well?
  68. Um due to the covid, um much of what we've
  69. planned to do is going to change.
  70. Um, but We're realizing in the city of 10 million
  71. people, we can't do this alone.
  72. And so collaboration is so important.
  73. Um, and so one of the things we'll be doing
  74. is building partnerships with ministries that are already existing and
  75. have been working here already um with the hope that
  76. eventually we can collaborate with them, if not now, maybe
  77. in the future.
  78. And so a lot of our work will be in
  79. partnership development.
