00:01 - 00:02
Hi everyone, this is Felicia,
00:02 - 00:06
thank you so much for watching my final presentation and thank
00:06 - 00:09
you Elizabeth for all your help and guidance this module.
00:09 - 00:12
I am very happy to talk about my character strengths
00:12 - 00:15
now that I know what they are and have seen how
00:16 - 00:17
um they have
00:18 - 00:21
been a constant theme throughout my life.
00:21 - 00:25
I'd like to start with um my top strength
00:25 - 00:29
which has been made apparent to me both times.
00:29 - 00:29
I took the V.
00:29 - 00:33
A quiz and that is love of learning and I
00:33 - 00:35
know I've mentioned this multiple times in the discussion posts,
00:35 - 00:37
it's just so interesting to me.
00:37 - 00:42
It's like it was an aha moment learning that because my whole life I have
00:42 - 00:43
sought out events
00:44 - 00:48
um that could increase my knowledge and learning opportunities.
00:48 - 00:53
I always love to attend any sort of presentation talk
00:53 - 00:56
Uh film just on various topics.
00:56 - 01:00
I'm genuinely interested in increasing my knowledge.
01:00 - 01:02
So that's something I noticed started more so
01:02 - 01:06
during my undergrad and has continued into my 20'
01:06 - 01:10
and even now um really it only paused during
01:10 - 01:12
the pandemic because there weren't a lot of options.
01:12 - 01:15
Um I did try a couple of virtual options
01:16 - 01:21
um Even when I was a teacher, I would also try to expand my students um
01:22 - 01:27
awareness about various topics by inviting them to various presentations talks.
01:27 - 01:28
Um
01:28 - 01:32
I can think of a few talks about mental health and talks about
01:33 - 01:37
indigenous rights and issues and just a variety of things
01:37 - 01:42
um And then coming to my line of work, I didn't plan to be a teacher.
01:42 - 01:45
I actually rejected that idea because I thought I didn't like Children.
01:45 - 01:48
But I fell into my line of work as a as an E. S. L.
01:48 - 01:53
Teacher and did that for a little over 12 years and
01:54 - 01:57
I genuinely enjoyed it and it actually was the perfect fit
01:57 - 02:00
for me because I got so much out of it.
02:00 - 02:02
I think I got more out of it than I put into
02:02 - 02:05
it because I learned so much from all the students I encountered.
02:05 - 02:09
Um I got to know about many cultures and traditions and
02:09 - 02:12
tried lots of different food, things like that.
02:12 - 02:15
So it was the perfect job for me and I think I
02:15 - 02:20
might even be returning to this at various points in my career
02:21 - 02:24
um in terms of ongoing education.
02:24 - 02:29
So uh I have always sought out different certificate programs and courses.
02:29 - 02:34
I don't think I've ever stopped being a student and I don't think I ever will.
02:34 - 02:38
Um I have my eye on a couple other certificates after I finished this one
02:38 - 02:42
and I've also signed up for various trainings through Laurier.
02:42 - 02:46
I'm trying to take advantage of every learning opportunity that comes my way
02:46 - 02:49
and I'm very grateful for all these opportunities.
02:50 - 02:54
Um I wanted to put these two together because
02:54 - 02:56
the first time I took the character strengths quiz,
02:56 - 03:00
perspective and social intelligence were my number two and number three
03:00 - 03:06
um strengths and I kind of see these as going hand in hand with love of learning.
03:06 - 03:07
Um
03:07 - 03:11
I guess maybe because of my upbringing, my childhood,
03:11 - 03:18
uh maybe because of my family life, um I have had this ability to see things from
03:19 - 03:22
multiple sides of an issue. And
03:23 - 03:27
this has helped me to be sort of a peacemaker
03:27 - 03:32
or help people see things from different perspectives and this
03:32 - 03:35
has blood into my work and have been told that
03:35 - 03:40
I am very diplomatic by more than one boss.
03:40 - 03:43
Um and when people come to me for advice,
03:43 - 03:46
I find myself encouraging them to look
03:46 - 03:49
for the other perspective or other perspectives
03:49 - 03:53
in the situation before they jump to any conclusions or or you know,
03:53 - 03:55
before they come from a place of judgment.
03:55 - 03:58
And so I do see this playing out in my life as well,
03:58 - 04:00
even though it's not my top strength,
04:01 - 04:05
um curiosity came up both times.
04:05 - 04:06
I did the quiz as well,
04:06 - 04:09
and this is another one that I think goes hand in hand
04:09 - 04:12
with love of learning and the other strengths I just mentioned.
04:12 - 04:19
Um I am genuinely curious. I I come from a place of openness and and wanting to learn.
04:19 - 04:21
And so I do sometimes ask
04:22 - 04:23
questions
04:24 - 04:26
and I try to make connections in my brain and I
04:26 - 04:29
do try to pass that knowledge along when I can.
04:30 - 04:30
Um
04:31 - 04:34
and I think coming from this place of curiosity
04:34 - 04:40
really helps people to feel seen and understood and you can really easily
04:40 - 04:44
make a connection that way when you come from a place of curiosity,
04:44 - 04:47
my group of friends is so diverse.
04:47 - 04:48
I just I love it.
04:48 - 04:54
I have friends from all cultures, all walks of life all ages and I think
04:55 - 04:58
uh my sense of curiosity has really contributed to that.
04:59 - 05:01
Um I know we were only asked to do three,
05:01 - 05:05
but I just wanted to throw in these other two because I just found them interesting.
05:05 - 05:11
So honesty was my fifth strength the first time I took the V. A quiz.
05:11 - 05:13
And this just made me chuckle because um
05:14 - 05:16
I think I can be honest to a fault.
05:16 - 05:19
Of course I try not to be rude or hurt anybody's feelings.
05:19 - 05:23
But um friends often come to me when they want the truth or they
05:23 - 05:27
want uh someone to tell them like it is or be direct with them.
05:27 - 05:29
And so that just kind of made me chuckle.
05:29 - 05:31
Um if anybody is interested,
05:31 - 05:36
I've taken the crucial conversations training that Laurie also offers and
05:36 - 05:40
I think this has really helped me to develop the skill and
05:40 - 05:43
use it in a workplace setting a little bit more appropriately.
05:45 - 05:49
And the other thing I'd like to mention is about love.
05:49 - 05:55
So I know it seems kind of simple, it might seem kind of obvious, but um I,
05:55 - 05:58
the people that I have in my life that I'm very close to,
05:58 - 06:02
I mean I think I can count on one hand the very close
06:02 - 06:06
friends I have and the that makes me love them that much more.
06:06 - 06:08
It makes me appreciate them that much more.
06:08 - 06:15
Um they know they have my unwavering support and they can count on me and um
06:15 - 06:17
it really,
06:17 - 06:20
it feels nice to hear the feedback that some
06:20 - 06:22
of my friends have shared with me recently,
06:22 - 06:26
even throughout the pandemic and when things were busy and things were, you know,
06:26 - 06:28
kind of depressing and stressful.
06:29 - 06:33
Um friends have told me that they felt my love and support from a distance.
06:34 - 06:40
Um and that's really all I can aim to do and I just I do things with my whole heart
06:41 - 06:45
um when I can and I like people in my life to
06:45 - 06:47
know that I love them and that I have their back.
06:48 - 06:53
And then there was one more I wanted to mention which was appreciation of beauty.
06:53 - 06:58
This was my number three strength the second time that I took the quiz
06:58 - 07:01
and I also just found this one interesting because um
07:02 - 07:04
I have lots of
07:05 - 07:07
artwork that I think some would consider unique
07:08 - 07:09
around my house
07:09 - 07:16
that I just love looking at and I do appreciate a beautiful view. Uh Nature
07:17 - 07:21
nature is just incredible and amazing and I could just spend
07:21 - 07:25
hours looking out at the lake or just being in nature
