  1. this video will look at what happens after the appraisal
  2. and how to challenge your appraisal if necessary.
  3. So after your appraisal, your line Manager will write up
  4. their notes copy will be of your appraisal will be
  5. issued to you and you will be asked to read
  6. through it and check that you agree with what has
  7. been written.
  8. If you agree, then you would um sign the form
  9. to confirm your agreement.
  10. Both parties keep a copy of the appraisal And afterwards
  11. your line manager will make sure that any actions have
  12. carried out.
  13. You can also keep a track on actions and if
  14. there was something you were expected to happen that didn't,
  15. then you can raise this at your next 1-1.
  16. Your line manager manager will continue to monitor your performance
  17. and we'll discuss it with you at the real regular
  18. 1-1 meetings.
  19. And you can also continue to monitor your own performance
  20. and collect your own evidence on an ongoing basis on
  21. the form.
  22. There is also an option not to agree with the
  23. assessment. Should this happen then discuss with your line Manager
  24. and try and resolve any disagreement.
  25. If it's not resolved, then you can sign the note
  26. agreed box on the form and state your reasons why
  27. your appraisal assessment though is countersigned.
  28. So the counter signing officer may decide that the comments
  29. are not appropriate to the appraisal or they may speak
  30. to your line Manager involved and ask them to address
  31. the issue and it may be that it gets resolved
  32. to your satisfaction.
  33. So hopefully through discussion and the provision of concrete evidence,
  34. you will agree and sign your appraisal.
  35. However, after discussion, um, and you don't accept that the
  36. the appraisal is a true assessment of your performance because
  37. your line manager failed to provide any concrete evidence to
  38. justify their assessment, then what happens next?
  39. You can continue to challenge the decision.
  40. It's important that you feel confident and that you don't
  41. feel intimidated to challenge the decision because your appraisal is
  42. an important document and it could impact on future decisions
  43. that are made about yet.
  44. So your appraisal may be used to assess your suitability
  45. for other jobs.
  46. So perhaps if you apply for a job at a
  47. higher level and they may want to have a look
  48. at your last appraisal also.
  49. Um if the organization was in the unfortunate position um
  50. that it was facing a redundancy situation, europe appraisal may
  51. be used to decide who is actually put forward for
  52. redundancy. So it's important that you are happy with your
  53. appraisal and challenge it if you're not.
  54. So if informal discussions don't resolve the issue, then you
  55. can raise a grievance.
  56. You can find support and guidance on how to raise
  57. a grievance in the staff handbook.
  58. If you're a member of a union, then you can
  59. ask the union rep to help out.
  60. You can also ask a colleague or other manager that
  61. you trust to support you with the process and you
  62. can find information on how to raise a grievance on
  63. Advisor Net and from Ecus.
  64. You may also want to ask for a copy of
  65. any personal data that's held on computer or in your
  66. personal file which has been compiled for the purpose of
  67. evaluating your performance.
  68. This is your right under the Data Protection Act, so
  69. it's important that you take an active part in the
  70. appraisal process that you prepare for meetings and that you
  71. collect evidence of your performance on an ongoing basis.
  72. And this will make it more likely that your appraisal
  73. is a positive experience and that challenge will be unnecessary.
  74. Thank you for listening.
